  1. Defiant X is cool but the V-280 was selected by the Army a few days ago as the platform for the future of their helicopter program. I will bet the other branches follow just as we saw with the UH60

  2. The V280 is not replacing the V-22. The V280 is seeking to replace the UH-60 Blackhawk in combat transport and utility. The Blackhawk will continue to serve, but the Valor will be the tip of the spear.

  3. Not sure why you are pressing the narrative that this is going to replace the Osprey. It cannot do any of the missions that the Osprey does at the moment. Not one. Carrying a squad of soldiers vs carrying an entire company is not equal. The Navy is replacing the Greyhound COD with the Osprey for receiving onboard spare parts, supplies and personnel. The Bell cannot fit anything like the Osprey can like entire jet engines. You should not be saying that the Osprey is being replaced with this. Maybe the Blackhawk is going to be reduced in numbers or all together because that airframe shares the same mission parameters.

  4. I think it'd be cool to see the Coast Guard get the new tilt rotor or defiant ships. Then they can get out to an emergency quickly, and farther away from shore, then stop and help the people, then make it back faster.

  5. You know, those V-22 Ospreys are behemoths! Up close they look like impregnable monstrosities. Very sturdy & solid. These new V-280 prototypes look very sleek, fast and more compact. But they also look very thin-skinned, like fiberglass (not carbon fiber). I hope they've designed some cabin protection for troops, pilot & nav.
Check out the new prototype from Boeing / Lockheed Martin: the Team Defiant. Dual rotors with dual motors on top spinning in opposite directions. If one motor fails the other can power both rotors. There is a rear propeller for forward thrust that can fly as fast as most single propeller planes. I think it's a superior design, kind of like a super-Blackhawk.

  6. To fly is heavenly to hover divine, to auto rotate amazing. Rotary wing aviation there is simply no substitute. Autorotation is something that neither the V-22 or the V-280 can do. I still like them I think they are impressive aircraft and the way the 280 just tilts the prop and gearbox is going to be a game changer. Thanks to all now serving, those who have, and those who will in the future. FLY NAVY!!!

  7. show me why this costs a billion dollars. its just another example of the government ripping off the taxpayer. i doubt if this thing really cost more than 4 to 5 million to produce. so who's getting filthy while we struggle to buy gas and groceries.?
