US launches nine-country coalition to protect ships in the Red Sea

After weeks of drone and ballistic missile attacks in the Red Sea, the United States has launched a nine-country coalition to protect ships passing through the important waterway.

According to The Australian, the Albanese government declined a US request to send an Australian warship to support the effort.

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin has returned to Israel for the second time since the October 7 attacks, with a strong focus on forming a taskforce to secure the Red Sea.

Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have been launching ballistic missiles and drone attacks on ships in the Red Sea for weeks; last Saturday, the US was forced to shoot down 14 drones attacking ships.

โ€œThis is an international challenge that demands collective action,โ€ the US Department of Defence said in a statement.

โ€œTherefore, today I am announcing the establishment of Operation Prosperity Guardian, an important new multinational security initiative under the umbrella of the Combined Maritime Forces and the leadership of its Task Force 153, which focuses on security in the Red Sea.โ€

  1. If U.S and its allies want peace and ceasefire in the region first of all they have to stop bombardments of Israeli regime on Gaza, Than Yemeni Houthis will satisfy to stop attacks on ships related to Israeli govt. We all know that U.S play double standards in the name of human rights. We saw 18000 civilian humans died in Gaza but U.S and Israel didn't implement ceasefire.

  3. What a coward country US is. He needs puppets with it to begin a war. Never seen them fight Alone After Vietnam. Matter of fact, never seen US in a war after Vietnam. Disturbing countries and removing presidents is not war.

  4. How can Lloyd Austin shake hands with a man who is slaughtering oppressed people? Has he forgotten what his grand parents suffered? Or what young black men are going through in America and indeed the world? American blacks have lost their moral compass. Thank God the rest of the black world has not..

  6. International shipping has to be protected. Iranian-backed Houthi rebel attacks on shipping is illegal and needs to be stopped. But international law needs to be consistent and Israel breaking international law with its targeting and collectively punishing civilians in Gaza and stealing land in occupied territories needs consequences. Israel considers itself above international law and that cannot continue

  7. The coalition formed by America will receive severe blows from the Yemenis, as they are the owners of the land and have great experience in war, which they gained through the war launched against them from 2015 until now, from an alliance that included more than 20 countries, and despite this, they emerged victorious from it, so this alliance is at sea. Red will backfire on the allies

  8. Yemen are doing this blockade exactly because what is happening in Gaza is in clear violation of international law and human rights. And this piece of shit Austin is there with war criminal Netaniahu talking about the 'right of navigation', when they are commiting a genocide in gaza and violating every human right possible.

  9. Does this moron Austin and all others who take part in this important operation understand that Genocide is illegal and a crime against humanity and that Yemen is trying to stop Isisrael from mass murdering civillians in gaza ????? Shouldnt they make an operation to stop the genocide first ??? As Nato members, they have the obligation to intervene whenever a genocide is happening. Like they did In Kosovo, for the albanian muslims. Instead, they are supporting the genociders and starting an operation against Yemen who is trying to stop the genocide.
