US are ‘holding up their end of the bargain’ for AUKUS deal

Liberal Party Defence and National Security Policy Chair Lincoln Parker says the US Congress is “poised to remove” some of the legal restrictions surrounding the sale of their nuclear submarines.

Mr Parker told Sky News host Erin Molan that the US is really “holding up their end of the bargain” in terms of AUKUS.

“One of the requirements that the United States had for Australia was for us to have an east coast base ready to go.

“We’ve known about that for years.

“The Albanese government have come out and said ‘well we’re not going to make any announcements or any decisions on the east coast base until the end of the decade’.

“What are the Americans going to say.”

  2. We can't even build patrol boat on time and on budget. How are we going build nuke subs on time and budget? It will never happen. This project has the potential to bankrupt Australia.

  3. The real issue with sharing Top Secret information, is ensuring that the party who is provided with advanced technology, has the capacity to keep it safe from everyone else. The billions of taxpayer dollars that was spent just to develop these technologies, necessitates they are handled with the highest level of secrecy.

In US weapons manufacturing, machine gun parts are made by dozens of manufacturers, with no one party having all the specifications or specs. You can imagine the huge amount of compartmentalizing that must be accomplished, before anything gets fabricated for a nuclear submarine?
