Urge to ‘reinvent’ road safety approach in Australia

Australia should “reinvent” road safety approach with campaigns on driver attitude and behaviour, Australian Road Safety Foundation Russel White says.

“There’s a lot more work to be done,” Mr White told Sky News Australia.

“What we’re seeing now is really a culmination of a whole stack of events in terms of the pandemic, but it is pretty clear that we need to reinvent our approach to road safety.”

  1. Used to be 4000 road deaths per year when we had half the people in this country and as he said, we got it down to 1200, not bad at all. But it went up mysteriously over the last year? Heart attacks are off the charts now! Gee, what changed?💉🫀😂🤣

  3. "We've tried authoritarian BS about 'speed kills' and it didn't work. What can we do? Do it again!"
Literally fitting the meme definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
That would be if you weren't skeptical enough to see it's all a scam to charge you for nonsense to pay for more nonsense govt programs and not fixing the roads.

  4. I do think that the roads we are travelling on have not been updated as quick as the car , truck and population has been increasing hence the vehicle crash going on .

  5. I dont know about anyone else out there but I dont have time to watch the road ahead and other users, I am to busy trying to keep track of the never ending different and changing road speeds, 40 kms, 50 kms, 60 kms, 70 kms, 80 kms, 90 kms, 100 kms, 110 kms and even rarely 120 kms. Trying to keep track of what zone I am in so I don’t get a ticket takes all my concentration. Then there are the road work signs and zone, for months the sign says 60 kms road works ahead and you drive through and there is nothing no men, no machines and no road work, and they go on and on for miles with nothing happening, these people that do this should be charged and fined for public nuisance. Then there are the roads themselves, country roads are unbelievable, and they are getting worse, pot hole that blow tyres out is the least of it. Qld are the worst they have a four foot drop of the edge, you go over the white line your gone, you ain’t coming back from that.

  6. Excuses.
It is, was and will be all about $$$.
Wake up sheep, its all revenue raising while the criminals do as they please.
Fix the roads. Revisit the training. Enforce track days. Link the license to the type of car, drivers age and experience and history. Use technology to restrict.
    Or keep complaining.

  7. Driver education in this country is a joke at best! Non existent actually! It's not how many hours driven but the quality of education that will ultimately reduce deaths. That is blatantly obvious from countries that has an actual driver education.

  8. I have never heard of so many accidents both on the road and in the air I have never heard as many ambulances going past my neighborhood since this year and not one MSM journalist has bothered to ask why just blame the people and behaviour, and yet there are less people.

  9. In 2021, there were 1,123 road crash deaths. This is an increase of 2.6 per cent from 2020. Over the decade, fatalities decreased from approximately 1,300 per year to 1,100 per year, despite am increase in population. By contrast, COVID deaths for 2022 (after the feds opened our borders to save our economy) are around 13,459. As such, I am still to be convinced that these "road safety" measures are about saving lives and not about increasing the "economy" of state government coffers.

  10. Bottom line they let unqualified operators on the road. Absolute joke they don't bring up that it's the main cause. Bring in as many rules as you want and ai driven vehicles accidents happen weather you like it or not people aren't on the ball any more and want everything done for them.

  11. How many of those accidents are from P platers or foreigners with little knowledge of driving in Australian conditions? The amount of stupidity I see on the roads today is easily fixed.

  12. Australia is the land of road fines! We lead the world….isn’t it good? Road Safety is just a cliche nowadays and the cops love it when people break any of the million raid laws!

  13. They don't want you safe. They want you controlled.
Freedom by its nature, is danger.
The more you sell your freedoms, the "safer" you are. Until the only danger is the government holding your freedom by the balls
