Upgrading to an EPIC CPU cooler & SSD

I decided to upgrade to a larger CPU cooler (the DeepCool LT720) and a faster SSD (WD Black SN850X). Here is a montage of how it went, followed by an overly lengthy chat about the process.

  1. Hello, people of the Tribe! I know this is outside my usual remit but I love faffing with my PC and find the whole process rewarding. Let those lovely capitalistic adverts run to help me out! Cheers, my dears.

  2. I'm always so impressed by people modifying and building their own PCs. I've tried time and time again, but I think I'm hopeless! Well, good to know you're getting a better rig now, hopefully with allow for even better content! Keep the vids coming!

  3. I would have gone with anything from arctic cooling but i've been buying arctic cooling stuff for nearly 25 years. They are my go to for computer cooling gear.

Oh and the cpu coming out of the slot because it is stuck to the cooler is a rough time. You can break cpu's or sockets not being careful like that

Pro tip: always horizontal mount your gpu. It is designed to be mounted like that so the cooler on it works better. Now i know why your old gpu failed so fast. It is pressed up against a piece of glass and has no air flow. Anyway, good to know you spent money to watercool the wrong part.

5:03 oh boy where do i start…. That WD drive has different nand and controller chips depending on the capacity you buy The speed quoted is from the highest capacity version. The 500GB and 1TB drive perform slower. They also have fucking terrible failure rates. You will be lucky to get 2 years worth of life out of it. They also do not have a dram cache, so good luck replicating the speeds when working with a large amount of small files. A sabrent rocket or a samsung 980 pro or 990 pro would have been the call to make.

10:09 it would be cheaper to replace all the fans with arctic cooling p12 argb's

13:20 Another protip: Get yourself a sabrent usb-c to m.2 external enclosure. They support something called usap. This means that the drive acts like an internal drive and will run at full speed. Saves having to take the computer apart twice. They also make utterly ridiculous usb sticks. Ever had a thumb drive that was 1tb in size and did reads at 7GBs? it's soooo cool.
