Upgrade announced for Western Australia's Henderson Defence Precinct

The Western Australia government and the federal government have signed a cooperation deal to establish the Henderson Defence Precinct – paving the way for a multi-billion dollar upgrade to the shipyard.

Over three years, $127 million will be spent on initial feasibility studies and immediate enabling works, including a breakwater extension.

Two new graving dry docks will eventually be constructed on the site to build surface combatant vessels and maintain Australia’s AUKUS fleet of nuclear-powered submarines.

The Commonwealth will take over ownership from Western Australia to bolster security at the precinct.

The project is touted as the largest naval maintenance hub in the southern hemisphere.

  1. This is a discusting waist of taxpayers' money. I would love to know who else is behind sponsering for this push of submarine purchasing, docking, and usage. The same thing is happening in Albany. No more taxes until you start looking after the people paying you to be in government in the first place. Give us housing, better food, and fuel prices, not war.

  2. Why isn't there a referendum on major issues like this? Ahhh ha, Cant have a local referendum when they take the rights and voices from the local people and give it to the commonwealth (common "wealth"). Would also love to now what war they are preparing us for 🤔?
