The exact same thing happening where I live in Greenville, SC as where you livein Virginia. Rain throughout the county but missing us nearly every time. We did manage to get a brief shower yesterday but it was less than 1/4 inch. Very dry here. Drought conditions

Storms have been less intense and numerous than expected so far this week, even though temps have been a few degrees hotter than forecast in the afternoon.
