Standing shoulder to shoulder with queer individuals in their fight for equal rights are a dedicated group of mothers. These fierce allies have been at the forefront, advocating for LGBTQI rights and supporting their own children’s journeys. Two remarkable mothers, Mukunda Mala and A Suneetha, have emerged as strong voices in queer parenting.
Mukunda Mala’s daughter is a transwoman. Initially coming out as gay in 2005, she later transitioned, and Mala wholeheartedly accepted her child. Despite having little knowledge about the LGBTQI community initially, Mala’s unconditional love led her to educate herself through the internet, seek guidance from a psychologist, and stand unwaveringly by her child’s side.
For A Suneetha, the challenges of motherhood arose much earlier when her twin daughters were just three years old. One of them identified as bisexual, while the other embraced her lesbian identity. Suneetha faced the shock of societal expectations and family pressure, but her love and support prevailed. She courageously embraced her daughter’s identity, even going against traditional norms by purchasing boys’ clothing for her non-conforming daughter.
