Farmers digging a well in Lintong County, Shaanxi Province, stumbled upon fragments of clay figures in 1974. Their accidental find led to the uncovering of a sprawling underground complex that had remained hidden for over 2,000 years. The site, spanning over 20 square miles, revealed thousands of meticulously crafted terracotta warriors, horses, and chariots.
This discovery shed light on Qin Shi Huang’s ambition and the monumental effort involved in constructing his burial complex, which historians estimate took nearly 40 years and required the labor of 700,000 workers.
