This is the third episode of a mega series of Podcasts exploring the comprehensive and untold history of the Indian National Congress.

This episode continues the story of the second phase in the evolution of the Indian National Congress. A major juncture during this period was the Partition of Bengal that occurred in 1905. It was the brainchild of Curzon, who broke the state to enable the communal division of the electorate. He enlisted the support of Salimullah, the Nawab of Dhaka. Salimulla issued the Lal Ishtahar pamphlet which resulted in an appalling persecution of Hindus.

The partition of Bengal caused a bitter split within the Indian National Congress. The old guard which called itself Moderates was supportive of British rule. It branded its opponents within the party as Extremists.

The Surat Congress session of 1907 witnessed raucous scenes of disorder and violence within the Congress ranks. By then, Lokmanya Balagangadhar Tilak had emerged as the foremost nationalist leader and freedom fighter. He transformed the Congress from being a party of elites into a mass movement.

This episode offers rich insights and rare anecdotes of this eventful period and unearths eye-opening facts hitherto hidden in mainstream histories.

  1. Hindus need to change the format of these videos because English is not the language of masses. We need these videos in Hindi and either in podcast format or small duration videos format. See, I maybe the 3rd or 4th to watch this. It is mostly a waste of effort if proper audience is not received.

  2. Excellent. We're getting into the heart of the matter. Request: please, when you arrive at that point in Congress' history, do NOT go lightly through Indira's Dictatorship, like 99% of the treatises routinely do. The Youth of Bharat MUST be exposed to how truly disgusting, and awful, and UNDEMOCRATIC, Congress became under Indira, her atrocious son Sanjay, and their clack of sycophantic supporters. Take your time with Emergency, explain how Indira broke election laws, ripped Constitution to shreds, destroyed functioning judiciary, press, and opposition, and treated average citizens as enemies.

Give those ignorant supporters of Pappu and Crew now shouting empty slogans about "defending the Constitution" a real history of the REAL subversion of Constitution by THEIR FAVOURITE PARTY AND DYNASTIC FAMILY! Thanks.

  3. British don't want leader like Tilak, lala lajpat rai who were having mass support in congress. But as the public support was with these leaders, they have to accept them.

  5. Please do a reading of Sri Aurobindo Writing. Our history has been heavily jeopardized. If we don't know who we were, we don't know where we have to go. We will see ourselves from the Lense of Western civilization and we will never be rooted. The tragedy of India that we have too many people and all the energy of people go on just to feed people, nobody thinks about the future of our country. He said India needs spiritual and moral regeneration before the material regeneration.
