I am not Ukrainian but I grew up surrounded by Ukrainians in Winnipeg I found them to be the most generous and innovative people I ever knew.

The 1980 convention on certain conventional weapons outlaws antipersonnel mines except in fenced and marked areas. It also bans booby traps, both of which you mentioned Russia is using extensively.

Nothing bizarre about this. This is a common mine removing technique and has been done this way since WWII.
Mines are the scrounge of the world, long lasting, hard to detect plastic versions killing/crippling all living beings! I'm surprised that FPV or flight programmed drones with thermal cameras aren't being used to map the location of these mines!

OBSERVATION….i saw a vid once where the farmer sent his goats and sheep out into a minefield for a few days on his farm bc it was safer than risking his family's lives

Russia is not actually "breaking" any bans on the use of landmines… It was a voluntary treaty which Russia never signed.
They are however a party to the Geneva convention so it is illegal for them to deliberately target civilians.
I dislike it when organisations, especially human rights organisations are dishonest about this point and try to present landmines or cluster munitions as universally illegal (they're not). What's more they never ever seem to mention the flip side, that they seem not to care about how many Ukrainian soldiers lives are being saved by the defensive use of landmines (the alternative is usually throwing people at the problem to try and hold the line at the expense of very high casualties).

I'm surprised that drones with cameras recording in the IR spectrum near dawn/dusk aren't used more. There would be lots of false positives, but farmers probably want to get rid of chunks of metal left on their farm land too.
