Ukraine’s First-Ever ATACMS Strike in Russia, Explained | WSJ

Ukraine fired long-range U.S. missiles inside Russia for the first time despite Moscow’s threats of retaliation. The attack hit an ammunition storage facility near the Russian city of Karachev and is the first such assault to use long-range, NATO-made arms.

WSJ’s Alistair MacDonald explains why the Kremlin sees this as a major escalation.

  1. Putin has no real counter threat to the US. A Nuclear weapon fired at the US is mutually assured destruction. He started a pointless war and is demanding the world turn a blind eye like they did prior WW2 with Poland in 1939. Allowing Putin to succeed would embolden Russia to invade more nations!

  2. The ruthless dictator arrogantly violated the terms of the UN Charter that he swore to when he joined the UN, invaded a neighboring country where he had been living peacefully, and has been indiscriminately attacking defenseless people for two and a half years. The dictator's actions are being fueled by cult supporters from a certain country (I know which country it is, and most of the people sympathize with Ukraine) who have been brainwashed by an anti-American guru, and who, under the pretext of their baseless and self-centered delusions, are collectively posting on websites around the world to praise and incite the dictator's actions. The invasion of Ukraine has been condemned by a UN resolution as "an act of aggression." The irrational ruler and the cult supporters who are aligned with a distorted ideology. We must not allow anti-social evil to run rampant on the planet, destroying the international legal order that guarantees the safety and interests of all inhabitants of the civilized world.

  3. Putin has been threatening nuclear war with the west every other day for the last 3 years. The west has crossed every single one of Russia’s “redlines” and nothing has happened. Russia can’t defeat Ukraine after 3 years of war. I strongly doubt Russia would do any better against NATO.

  5. In no way is having US/NATO ground personnel entering launch/strike codes into a weapons platform in an armed conflict with a combatant/beligerent nuclear-armed superpower opponent – is a ever a good thing… period. So we want to next put our 18 year olds into the conflict? While Ukraine has an age restriction of no one younger than 27 is allowed to be conscripted. Good job there!

  6. Lol. Yall say it's to give help to Ukraine before Trump gets in. This decision had nothing to do with helping Ukraine and more to do with escalating a war before they leave. So much for a peaceful transition.

  8. Ukraine gave it's nuclear arsenal to Russia on the promise that Russia will stay out of it's affairs. That did not happen. Ukraine should have kept it's nukes, instead of trusting a country with a chronic history of being invaders in foreign lands.

  9. Every conflict can be end with Ukraine not joining Nato . They still think they can live as a normal independent country even if russia stop the war, after the war Ukraine will just become a tiny US in EU. No way they can pay the debt 🤣🤣

  10. If Russia is allowed to receive help so isnt Ukraine and Putin is not the president of Ukraine and does not own the US supplied missiles that were used so he cannot and does not have any right to tell them what they can and cannot use.
