Ukraine will be the West's last chance to stop Putin warns senior General | Frontline

“If Russia is successful in Ukraine…then it will have shown the US and itself and the rest of the world that it’s okay for a regional power, which is what Russia is, to take territory by force…and those are lessons that will be learned in Asia by China.”

2024 will be the last chance to stop Putin from establishing a dangerous new world order as Russia’s war economy is now prepared for a long war in Ukraine, says General Sir Richard Barrons in a stark warning to Ukraine’s allies to do the same, on Frontline for #timesradio

  1. Maybe it was not a failed invasion from Russia? Maybe it was like John Mearsheimer saying and some other: That with only 190 000 soldiers it was never meant to occupy Ukraine or Kiev but to force Ukraine to the negociation table? Or is it too farfetched theory?

  2. This man speaks as it is, not the waffle and verbal garbage we get from UK politicians who are not connected to reality.
If the West stays as complacent as it is towards Ukraine there WILL be a major confrontation in Europe leading to WW3 and devastation so vast that any form of normal life will not exist. Any survivors will be cast back to the Stone Age with immediate effect.
Fortunately the BBC will go extinct!

  3. Stop Russia from doing what? Securring their borders against the ever expanding NATO threat, as any serious country would do, just because they actually care about their borders and want them safe unlike the UK that allows an invasion from the thrid world, doesnt mean they shouldnt. So it's none of our business.
Poor propaganda from The Times as usual these days.

  5. WE CAN LIE LIE AND A LIE BUT IN THE END THE TRUTH IS THE TRUTH. U.S EXPANDED NATO TO RUSSIAS BORDERS PLA ED BALLISTIC MISSILES IN FORMER SOVIET STATES POINTING AT RUSSIA. WE IGNORED ALL OF PUTINS SECURITY CONCERNS. THE MINSK AGREEMENTS WAS A LIE. BECAUSE THE AMERICANS WANTED A WAR WITH RUSSIA TO WEAKEN RUSSIA EUROPE CHOSE TO SELF DESTRUCT ECONOMICALLY FOR THEIR AMERICAN MASTERS. THE U.S IS DOING THE SAME THING TO CHINA WITH CHINA ENCIRCLED WITH U.S MILITARY BASED.WE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL NOT PUT UP WITH THIS BEHAVIOR. ANY CLOWN WHO THINKS THE WEST CAN DEFEAT A NUCLEAR ARMED RUSSIA IS DELUSIONAL. AS STANDARD OF LIVING DECLINES IN THE WEST, AND POVERTY INCREASES I FIND IT STRANGE THAT WESTERN OLIGARCHS WILL RATHER SPEND TRILLION ON LOSING WARS INSTEAD OF INVESTMENT IN IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THEIR CITIZENS. SAD TO WATCH THE WESTERN DECLINE DUE TO STUPIDITY, HUBRIS AGGRESSION,ARROGANCE AND WHITE ANGLO SAXON RACIAL SUPERIORITY.

  6. Europe needs new security arrangements, like the ones untill 1991, to keep the piece stable. Arrangements, taking into acount the security concerns of all the parties involved. Not a constant war with Russia (which potentially can escalate to nuclear). All this talks about arming, escalating, fighting for freedom and democracy are just war mongering, persuing other (no- european) interests. It is the same war propaganda used from the Vietnam war, Iraq, Afganistan.. the ''domino'' effect, to ''stop the spreading of evil'', ''to cut the axis of evil'', etc. America los the war in Vietnam. The North Vietnam was even stronger after the war and took over the south. So – what happened, did the world fall apart? No, nothing happened. Apart from the death and destruction. And some got much richer. I can't believe peole are so susseptable to this kind of propaganda after all the history.
It will not solve the problems and many more people will be displaced, enpoverished and die. I wonder how many keyboard warrions for democracy realize that ''supporting Ukraine'' in real life terms means around 200-300,000 dead ukranian boys and men per year.

Thank you. I think you are performing an important service journalistically and politically for those of us who strongly believe in the Ukrainian cause.

  8. I am so impressed by General Sir Richard Barrons; and I agree with his opinions re the broader significance of this conflict. As an American, I am distressed and extremely disappointed by those in our country (mostly Republican politicians following Trump's lead) who are undermining the effort to fully support Ukraine.

  9. The budget is inflated, that's not an good argument. Also shadow commerce is never taken into account, do we know how much russia earns with crime and hacking? Are these metrics also considered? Ukraine can be hold for sure and I'm all for self defense. But the saying yes to everything ain't the way.
