Ukraine War: Will Putin's ally Belarus join the conflict?

Retired Air Vice-Marshal, Sean Bell, gives his assessment on Belarus’s involvement in the war, saying “Belarus’s leader, Aleksandr Lukashenko, is a bit of a puppet for Putin”.

Around 90 per cent of the military said they will not get involved in the war, and a regiment of Belarusian soldiers is actually fighting for Ukraine against Russia, largely because their president is so unpopular in Belarus.

  1. I don't think Belarus will join in.

Konrad Muzyka, an independent defence analyst and the Director of Rochan Consulting, says that Belarus, fully mobilized, can put about 20,000 troops in the field.

Artyom Shraibman, a Belarusian political analyst at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace says that involving Belarus in the Ukraine war would be political suicide for Lu. Did not know the war was so unpopular there, but I don't have access to this specialist scholar's sources.

Putting it all together, I think Lu is a wily old bird who has not stayed in power for 30+ years for nothing. Without crossing Putin openly, it looks like he will do as little as he can get away with.

Sending these tanks woukd tend to show that. Moving heav equipment out of the north both is a token of support for Putin's, and makes it less easy for Belarus to join the war.

    Ideal for Lu.

  2. "The Maidan Revolution" defined Ukrainian independence as "freedom from Russian influence." (E..g., Democracy Now, "Debate: Is Orcraine's Opposition a Democratic Movement, or a Force of Right-Wing Extremism?" @ 05.20). Next thing we know, a war erupted between Ukraine's government and its Russians. If a war broke-out between whites and blacks in the U.S., because the government redefined 'freedom' to mean, "freedom from Afro-American influence," nobody would be fooled about who started the war, and whose side Justice is on.

  3. Russia must be America's counterweight. America is a country that is actually always disturbing other countries, for example the middle east country. irresponsible .. not to mention Syria, libya, afghanistan etc., America is actually the one who created the real security instability that was created by America itself.

  4. Neo-Soviet Putinite Russia is violating the most basic tenets of humanity. Indiscriminate attacks on energy infracstructure, schools, hospitals, apartments etc. have killed tens of thousands of civilians and produced a real holocaust in Ukraine. That's the real face of Putin's Bolshevism.
