DISCLAIMER FOR GENERAL STAFF LOSSES DATA
1) These are real people with real lives and real families who love them. Don’t let the numbers sap your humanity.
2) These numbers probably aren’t accurate but they’re the best we have and we don’t need them to be accurate to be indicative of patterns of activity.
3) All losses are estimates. Losses cannot be counted with accuracy because of the conditions on the ground.
4) Both sides would see it to be of their advantage to minimize their own losses maximize the other side’s losses.
5) Neither side releases their losses but we have enough transparency from the Ukrainian side to have confidence in they are indicative.
6) Personnel losses are hard to count. If a soldier gets injured, heals up, and returns to the front line only to get injured again, is that one loss or two? Also, how to deal with losses from PMC’s or soldiers fighting with RF from occupied territories?
7) Equipment losses are hard to count. If an AA complex involves several parts and one part gets disabled, is that a loss, or a fraction of a loss? If a tank gets disabled, repaired, back into the fight, then disabled again, is that one lost tank or two?
8) All recorded losses are vulnerable to multiple reporting. We have already seen numerous cases of multiple drones in the air reporting the same loss from different angles as multiple engagements.
9) Losses are not always reported on the same day they occurred. It is frequent that drone losses are reported at least 24 hours after other terrestrial equipment losses. Certain losses may not be reported for days or weeks for military intelligence reasons.

  1. @ATP Wikipedia
imited numbers have been produced and are in service with the National Guard of Russia.

In October 2011, the Ministry of Defence refused to buy the BTR-90 and did not include them in the list of the state program of armament until 2020, and waived exports for the BTR-90.[9]

Subsequently, the Russian army chose to assemble a large number of BTR-82A. The combat effectiveness has already increased significantly, and it is derived from the BTR-80. The development cost for BTR-82A is omitted and the production cost is cheaper, making the less advanced BTR-90 even less likely to change its fate. The 2015 Moscow Victory Parade exposed the next-generation VPK-7829 Boomerang wheeled armored vehicle, and officially announced that the BTR-90 program could no longer be resurrected.

So, there are not there to be tested, they were never taken into production. Russia preferred the BTR-82A to the BTR-90. Would be nice to know if the decision was made based on quality/functionality or pricing or both.

  2. While russia has the strength to continue attacking Ukraine doesn't need to go forward to liquidate russian assets. They can sit back and let the russians have at it. Once they can't attack any more that's the time to move forward. russian strategy and tactics are all just attack attack attack. Once they stop attacking you know they literally have nothing left. Same with the missiles. If they had them they would be using them. Anyway cheers.

  3. Russian artillery effectiveness? Due to reports of poor quality artillery shells from N.Korea, barrel wear, lack of skilled artistry personnel and destruction of systems. Is there evidence that the effectiveness has or Russian artillery fire has severely diminished?

  4. Jonathan, to give credit where it is due, my comments regarding the arrival of GLSDB in Ukraine was prompted by "Suchomimus" speculating on how the BUK SAM was destroyed IVO Avdiivka, and by Reuters. Reuters as been beating the drum on this as well. Today from Reuters:
Ukraine's new long-range rocket delivery from US pushed to next year
    By Mike Stone
November 30, 202312:14 PM ESTUpdated 12 days ago
WASHINGTON, Nov 30 (Reuters) – Ukraine will need to wait until next year before it receives its first big shipment of rocket-propelled bombs the U.S. has adapted to strike at a nearly 100-mile (160km) range, according to the Pentagon and people familiar with the timing.
When the U.S. was first approached by Boeing (BA.N) to buy and ship the Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) to Ukraine last fall, the most optimistic timeline for shipping was around spring of this year, according to a document seen by Reuters at that time. It was reported by Politico in February that delivery wouldn't take place until later in 2023.
Ukraine needs GLSDB to augment the limited number of 100-mile range ATACMS rockets the U.S. has sent. It will allow Ukraine's military to hit targets at twice the distance reachable by the rockets it now fires from the U.S.-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and force Russia to move its supplies even farther from the front lines. People familiar with current timing say delivery to the U.S. by Boeing, the prime contractor for the GLSDB, will take place in late December – followed by several months of testing before onward shipment to Ukraine.

  5. To support the GLSDB report there was 1 HiMars unit sent to Ukraine seemingly randomly about 3 weeks back I think and the last time we heard anything about the glsdb's the manufacturer was wanting to preform testing on the system. So this could report could be plausible.

  6. Kherson video did not look muddy! I know it is sandy soil but the annual rainfall in the area is not that great. The agriculture relied on irrigation and most of the water has not been applied in the past two years. Ukraine only needs a few light vehicles to move supplies around. Ukraine seems to have anti drone EW in place and outnumbers the Russians in theatre in both drones and artillery (quality and quantity) While the FAB bombs are going to get lucky now and then for the Russians. Ukraine just needs to know where the Russians are and move their forces to meet them. The drones move pretty fast and a HIMARS strike even faster!

  7. As attributed to Alexander, fortune favors the bold. This is not the time to entrench, it is the only time to attack as waiting for Putin to get elected unhampered will only make things worse. They need to push and make Putin truly desperate, to clamp down on his own people and more, so that it starts to fracture and brake under internal and external pressures. Hitting closer to Moscow with much more media coverage as the election looms would be even better and cutting off cities in Russia from armies, roads and rails even better. Forward to win.

  8. Thanks for this update. By the way I watched your late “extra” upload yesterday. Didn’t have time to leave comments. As you indicated the Russians are just throwing anything they have out there. I really enjoy the war of attrition Ukraine is conducting lately. I think it will definitely make a difference.

  9. Jonathan…. the trend continues as to far fewer tanks and artillery assets in action. If they were in action there would be counter battery fire and more attrition. So there very likely aren't anywhere near as many tanks and artillery backing Russian actions. Probably a mix of factors. Lack of fuel. Failing electrical batteries. Poor manufacture, causing more failures. Logistics issues for the heavier munitions and the fuel requirements may also be a factor. Still quite a few Russian battle taxis showing up, but those are one of the few ways of keeping soldiers warm, rather than leaving them exposed to the weather. While the weather has not been very severe, in terms of temperatures, there is the factor of warmer, near freezing weather, causing men to be damp and wet, in the chilly weather. Something that can be even worse than simply very cold weather. Near freezing wet weather, hovering above and below the freezing temperature, can be extremely destructive. The effects of a night time drop in temperature, after some day time thaw, can be horrific.

  10. These articles treat the people reading them like we are stupid… What did they expect Russia to do while Ukraine was training troops and the US was slow playing the weapons they needed… Of course they were building their defenses up 🤦.. And that article sounds like the US plans to continue doing the same thing… Hold fast and defend what you have and stock up on weapons and ammo and wait a year .. yeah lets just kick the can down the road and hope after the US elections you still have full support, after another year hope more support hasnt eroded across the world… And then go on the attack.. i can understand waiting for aircraft to help cover troops and hit targets, which countries need to make happen faster, but why in the world would you wait a year and allow russia to continue to russify the areas they already have, move more people in, build their army back up, stockpile weapons as well, and the Ukranians stuck in enemy territory continue to have to live under that regime in their own homeland… Its a pathetic and absolutely ridiculous strategy imo .. russia is losing more equipment, going to have to go to a larger mobilization, etc… the US needs to stop pandering and playing softball and all the countries supporting Ukraine can give them enough to wear Russia down and push them out in the next year vs sitting around playing defense for that time allowing russia to get stronger as well, if they would just DO IT… Im an American, a Republican/conservative/MAGA, Army veteran, Trump Supporter, etc etc etc .. and this 💩 is ridiculous… Yes it affects US and European security, global interests, regional interests, national interests, all of it. I support arming Ukraine, always have, we gave our word in the 90s, time to keep it… But im tired of the lackadaisical, slow playing, non decisive, no clear goal/strategy lack of leadership of this administration..

  11. LOL, as you gripe about helicopters and lack of UKR air superiority not being addressed in the article (about 26:34) your mouse cursor is literally hovering over a paragraph that talks about helicopters, and about 5 paragraphs later lack of UKR air power is mentioned. I'm a longtime fan, and I look forward to your videos daily, but sometimes you stubbornly refuse to release a narrative (the English bulldog bit of you).

  12. off-topic warning. i learned a new word on China Update today and also made up one you have my permission to use if u like.
Tony used the term illiberal while describing an authoritarian govt.
made me think of a usage concerning it.

america is suffering an illiberal magademic.
russia is suffering an illiberal putidemic.

    america is recovering

  13. Another way to look at the personnel loss count is to multiply by 30 to get estimated monthly loss, ie today's 800 x 30 = 24,000 per month. Compare that to russia's estimated monthly "recruiting" of 20-30K.

I don't think the russians would be doing live testing. They want to avoid the negative publicity. That is why they don't fly the SU-57 anywhere near Ukraine.

I don't know about a "large batch" of GLSDB, the manufacturer has been delaying due to production issues, shipments would start as a trickle.

I can see targeting sewage system. A city cannot exist for long without central sewage processing. There are not enough backyards for outhouses. russia is not concerned with "war crimes". They do what they want.

"You have to do some serious ignoring …" Right now THAT IS the definition of the average russian! They ignore any inconvenient facts or truths that contradict the rosy propaganda. Even earlier propaganda. History and "facts" are what ever the current propaganda says it is. At the start of the war, relatives in Ukraine talking to russians on the phone, with bombs in the background were not believed. Russians told their relatives there was "no war" …

A static front does NOT mean no Ukrainian losses. Russia still has opportunity to attack, in places of their choosing, like Avdiivka right now. Ukraine does need to keep up some attacks to attract russian replacements. I don't believe that "Hold and Build" will work. It depends on Democrats/Biden win in the upcoming elections. That is not a sure thing, even if t-Rump is finally thrown in jail. I think Ukraine has to continue "enhanced attrition". That means MANY more cluster bombs and HIMARS "AW". And Long range munitions. I think a static year will severely increase the calls for "negotiation"/capitulation.

  14. @ATPGeo That's some 'source'…

Republicans aren't 'asking for a new Ukrainian strategy', they are demanding that democrats stop relocating millions of illegals around the country in an effort to alter the makeup of a society for political reasons before considering additional aid to Ukraine.

You do know the proper term for that particular type of illegal and immoral activity, right?
