US spends almost $1 trillion a year on defense. Most of that is to defend other countries as a stabilizing force in the world. Probably $200-300 billion is spent every year in the Pacific, mainly to protect Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. An equal amount is spent in Europe to protect it.
It's very strange that with all this military spending suddenly the comparatively small amount spent to stop Putin's seizure of the largest country in Europe has become a rallying cry for those wanting to limit spending.
