Ukraine claims fighter jets have destroyed a large Russian warship in Crimea | DW News

Footage from the port of Feodosia in occupied Crimea shows a huge explosion overnight. Russia confirms the ship was damaged and says one person was killed.

Moscow also says air defense systems destroyed the Ukrainian fighter jets that targeted the ship. Several buildings in the area suffered damage, believed to have been caused by a blast wave from the explosion.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the country’s air force on the Telegram social media site on Tuesday for the overnight attack on Feodosia in occupied Crimea that Ukrainian officials believe destroyed a Russian landing craft.
“I am grateful to our Air Force for the impressive replenishment of the Russian underwater Black Sea fleet with another vessel. The occupiers will not have a single peaceful place in Ukraine,” he wrote, implying the ship had been sunk.

So far, Russian officials have only acknowledged the vessel taking damage.
But unverified images purporting to show the overnight airstrike showed a large explosion at the scene which Ukrainian officials said on Tuesday they believed to be a munitions explosion on board.

“We can see how powerful the explosion was, what the detonation was like. After that, it’s very hard for a ship to survive, because this was not a rocket, this is the detonation of munitions,” Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat told Radio Free Europe.

  1. This is the first I've heard about any Ukrainian bombers doing this and Russia certainly didn't shoot any down. none of the videos even show ANYTHING coming from the ground from any defense batteries.

  2. Unfortunately we are laughing at Russia, 1st nuclear power state in the world, just for challenge it faces in conventional warfare, surely iam telling u there is no way ukraine can defeat russians, it is amatter of time. What i think it is good if the world urge ukraine and russia to settle into diplomatic table and not otherwise, because normal ukraine citizens are suffering for nothing…

  3. Something important to know, for all who interested in history and/or support Ukraine:

Rus' ought not to be confused with modern “Russia”, which derives its name from the Rus' but historically is a completely different state, which almost all its existence was at war with the Rus'.

Just like the Holy Roman Empire was actually Germany, “Russia” is actually Muscovy, despite their best attempts to convince everybody otherwise.

Its name “Russia" received only in the 18th century, when Peter I simply changed Muscovy’s name into the “All Russian Empire” (Russia originates from Rosia, name used by the Greek Orthodox Clergy in regards to Rus')
Under the reign of Cathrine II Muscovites where even punished for continuing to identify as Muscovites, and were forced to call themselves Russian.

Lands that Russia (Muscovy) claims were part of the original Rus', but actually weren't, are Novgorod, Suzdal, and Ryazan, since in historical texts of XI-XII centuries they are mentioned as separate entities from Rus'. They can be considered parts of extended Rus', although their culture was distinct from main Rus'.

In 1493, Muscovite duke Ivan III appointed himself to be the Great Ruler of All Rus'. No other kings acknowledged that. From that point on Muscovy started to make false claims on Rus' ownership.

“Russia” is an offshoot of Ukraine and not the other way round, despite what Soviet and Russian (Muscovite) historians have been trying to say for years. A Slavicised Finnic, then later, Mongolized offshoot. Kyiv was a developed cultured capital when Moscow was just another swamp village.

Moreover, in the Italian sources of the 15th century it is likewise mentioned, that Russia is bordered by Poland to the west, Lithuania and Livonia to the north, and Muscovy to the east, further proving that Russia historically speaking, is an exonym of Ukraine, that was stolen by Muscovy.

Germany used to call itself the Holy Roman Empire, that didn’t mean they became the Romans, and all of a sudden had a right to claim whole of Italy and its history, but yet, that’s exactly what Russia (Muscovy) did in regards to Rus'–Ukraine, which is a horrible injustice!

  4. The Ukrainian army has 'abandoned' about 14,355 tanks, armoured personnel carriers and combat vehicles, including German Leopard 1 and 2, American Bradly М2А2, MaxxPro International etc. Didn't you know about that? Of course, you didn't. You live in cloud cuckoo land because you've been watching and reading only one side of the conflict, set by the American government and its satellites through the coup in Kiev in 2014

  5. Russia claimed their air defence shot down the aircraft that fired on the ship… 🤔🤦‍♂️

Russian Air defence is so advanced it doesn't target the projectiles fired…

No, it targets…allegedly…the equipment that fires the projectiles 🤦‍♂️🤣
