Ukraine advances in the south, Russian officials admit | DW News

Reports suggest that Ukrainian forces have recaptured territory in the south of the country – it’s their biggest breakthrough there since the start of the war. Russian-installed officials have acknowledged Ukraine’s advances in the Kherson region – one of four that Russia illegally annexed last week. Photos shared on social media appear to show soldiers raising the Ukrainian flag in several villages. Unverified reports suggest Ukrainian troops have advanced as much as forty kilometers in a single day.

Ukrainian forces are also pushing on with their counteroffensive in the north-east. Yet as Russian forces withdraw from the region, evidence is emerging of a brutal occuption.

  1. Unity does not come from breaking people or things down. You would not go to a brother or sister, physically hurt them, emotionally abuse them, and tell them it is for the best; it is to liberate them. If Russia truly saw the Ukrainian people as brothers and sisters they would have extended an olive branch. They would have helped them build their cities. They would have helped them get resources they need. They would have come together in peace and prosperity. Let us hope the real brothers and sisters put down their weapons and say enough is enough. We don't want to fight our siblings for another's motives. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦

  3. Urgent: Russian forces regain full control of the town of Lyman in Ukraine despite all Western military aid. Washington announces its intention to increase the monthly aid to more than 10 billion dollars, noting the necessity of defeating Russia.

  4. If Russia uses a Nuke it may well be on Snake Island, A low level, easy target with only the island and its troops lost! Then they will wait for the West's reaction! Answer use the island as POW camp! The Russian prisoners will act as human sheld.

  5. IF NUCLEAR WAR HAPPENS, IT WILL BE BECAUSE THE MEDIA KEEPS ESCALATING IT AND TALKING ABOUT IT, AND MAKING IT A BIGGER DEAL THAN IT IS, ESSENTIALLY ALARMING BOTH SIDES OF THE CONFLICT MORE THAN NECESSARY.

  6. What's different between the Putin regime of Russia and the Min Aung Hlaing regime of Myanmar committed war crime and genocides on innocent civilians including pregnant women and children as well as elderly people?

  7. Nina Khrushchev agrees that she also HEARD that people voted at gunpoint in referendums. But the question is, where did so many guns come from? She HEARD, but SHE DIDN'T SEE! So to say that someone forcibly forced the citizens of Novorossiya to vote can be considered nonsense that is beneficial, first of all to the United States. And think again, if the APU shelled Donbass for 8 years and killed 15 thousand civilians, is there really a reason for the survivors not to vote for joining Russia? If they refuse, and Russia leaves, then Donbass will finally crush the APU with the support of the West and the United States.

  8. He should be captured but not be executed, please.

He should be in jail for life and witness the reborn of Russia and the first democratic regime ever. To witness the fall of the regimes of Belarus, etc.

To witness the annexation of Russia to the European Union and the economic compensations by Russia to Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and other states, for at least two generations to come. Even probably Russia being reorganized in smaller independent, free countries, that can live in peace with all their neighbors in Asia, India, Europe and the Middle East.

To see him witness this and scream in horror, for his life had no meaning in the end of the day.

  9. because God loved the world so much that he gave his only son Jesus Christ for all mankind so that any man who believes in Jesus Christ may inherit eternal life through him if we confess our sins Jesus Christ is faithful and just to forgive us and only through Jesus can we inherit eternal lifeThe word is close to you: in your mouth and in your heart.” And this word is the word of faith, which we preach. 9 So if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For by believing in the heart righteousness is obtained, and by confessing with the mouth salvation is attained, 11 as the Scripture says: "Whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame."64

  10. The world would be better if our leaders thought and reacted like that of the Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelensky. Let's return Ukraine back to Blue Skies over Golden Fields. If you're forced to fight. Fight Putin

  11. putin must have known that, the very moment, he will use nuclear weapon, Russia will become a very easy target for US,EU and NATO and he will have no escape route, coz currently, russia is completely cordoned by EU and NATO countries. Based on facts, this nuclear threat by Putin is blank and blunt…

  12. Lessons learnt from history (WW2). No matter how persistent or resilient the Royal Japanese Army was in WW2, two nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagashima immediately forced their surrender within the week. Now tell that to the Ukrainians with allies' HIMARS.

  13. Of course Putin is admitting this now in order to motivate his troops and make an excuse to use the Nukes. It's an impossible situation for him. He needs to find a way out and save face.

  14. The Russians in Ukraine did the same as the Germans in Poland in 1939 – 1945. Robbing museums, factories, institutions, destroying everything that is Polish and murdering 5 million Poles.

  15. Intelligent people knew negotiations are the way to go in any disagreement between Countries.
By refusing to negotiate with Putin Biden ensured their would be war and that brings with it a threat of nuclear weapons being used
Joe Biden and NATO knew this and they still refused to talk with Putin to iron out differences. Biden poured money and weapons into Ukraine. 30 Billion dollars or more plus weapons.

  17. This obsession, by the media, about nuclear weapons, is unhelpful! It's fear mongering and, the media would be better employed with encouraging Ukraine's allies to offer more support.

  18. the NATO violates their own agreement from 1993 by expanding their borders to the east
there was an agreement half a year ago between russia and ukrain which said that the Ukrain could stay independent while not joining nato and russia would pull their troops back. Putin AGREED to that but the US denied that offer
im from germany and far away from any radical thinking for both sides

BUT in this case russia is definetly right to have this conflict ( dont mean that war)
those are facts that nearly no western news channel or newspaper is talking about

me and alot of other people in germany share the same opinion
Russia has every right to defend their borders
