The US military has begun working on its new ‘doomsday plane’. The US Air Force on April 26 awarded a $13 billion contract to Sierra Nevada Corp to develop a successor to the E-4B. The jet can withstand a nuclear blast and can allow the US President to lead the country in case of emergencies. Watch

The old planes will be taken out of service in early 2030's, but the replacement planes will not be ready until 2036. Apparently, the Pentagon needs someone to help them with math.
