Two Medallions, Many Mistakes – Elden Ring 04

I’m slowly realizing Elden Ring isn’t well suited to the LP format at all. Especially not mine.

  1. I have yet to experience this "grind" that you speak of. Everyone keeps talking about how hard the game gets and how you have to get to an absurd level to actually do well against things, but I'm level 50 and can manage most encounters still, the only thing I can't actually face off against right now is shit from the big red fuckpile, but my level progression seems to be completely normal. I've got no honest clue why everyone's saying this game's got the difficulty curve they think it does.

  2. You got the Flask of Physick from the Third Church of Marika. If you rest there, Melina will give you some lore.

Also there is no requirement to let yourself get hit to do damage with large weapons. I'm rocking great hammers and it's working out fine. Just a difference between Dark Souls 1 enemies and literally every other game in the series.

  3. They wrote the Dung Eater so well, he's just the absolute worst thing ever. One of the better characters IMO in the game. Then again FromSoft just writes the same characters over and over though, but it works I guess.

  4. I don't own the game I had to torrent it to play it to not be spoiled I can tell you offline does not fix the stutters in some areas in the early parts of the game like that golden horse guy at the start and it still stutters late into the game occasionally

They will be getting my money once a job is found (why the fuck do help wanted signs mean nothing)

  5. I know it's obviously far too late now, but the easiest way to defeat 90% of humanoid enemies is block with shield then use shield counter, the vast majority of them will go into the slumped state from it

  6. There is a third way to find out about the medallions. There's an NPC east of the gatefront ruins that tells you about freeing his castle which is Fort Haight. It's not much more than randomly clearing those forts, but at least someone points you in the general direction.

Also when you sit at the church graces, melina has stuff to say

  7. I believe you may have screwed up some NPC questlines now. And at least missed a ton of dialogue. Heres what:

    1. Melina tells her about her background, the Erdtree, her body, and some vague stuff if you talk to her by a Grace without leaving Limgrave I think(?)

    2. North of Mistwood would be an NPC talking a lot of important stuff if you go to him BEFORE clearing out the castle you did in the video. Then it eludes to more npc questline. The entire castle at @1:22 has a lot of "environmental storytelling" as you call it. Normally you would go talk to the golden ghost on the way there. Then deduce the scene inside. Preferably after talking to the NPC north of Mistwood multiple times. That would also explain who the soldier is.

    3. There is a "talking tree" near the very first enemy camp, near the bridge, along the road. You would talk to him before going through the demi-human cave that leads to the Dragon church. Otherwhise he dissappears I believe. Both NPCs should call you out while near them on the road.
Since its the first area it might even be worth going there with a new character just to show. But if it drives you insane, just do whenever you feel like it (or not at all I guess). I think its worth it though.

The Weapon Arts work differently on various weapons. Wild strikes on a Club, basically keeps swinging the club around while giving you superpoise. On my Greatsword it gives you like 1 Swing only or something. And lets not forget that the scaling/affinity changes with every Art. Blood Arts are great for AoE clearing camps. Determination (power up your next hit) is great on the Greataxe with the Talisman that increases Charge attacks power. Its also really fun lifting up enemies into the air.

  8. The thing you have to remember about Patches is he's mostly an Armored Core reference, Patch the Good Luck was this asshole you meet in AC For Answer that had a similar personality and is also a giant coward when things aren't going their way.

  9. For someone who will never afford elden ring or the means to play it in a lifetime, watching your videos and playstyle will be the closest thing that comes to actually playing it. I'm really digging this LP so far.

  10. Plague knowing who big mom is, that's certainly surprising.
I always kinda figured that plague would look at one piece and just sigh.
He doesn't seem like the type to like it but I could be wrong.

  11. Had you went to the north like this without knowing about the blue girl (the witch renna), she would not have appeared at night anymore. Instead, the spirit bell would have been available at the roundtable. I dont think it will ever get as bad as the "tutorial area" though. Also, Jar boy Alexander can appear in the mine right of summonwater village (where the boat guy was), where the scarlet territory starts. But that encounter doesnt seem important at all.

  12. there is a beach where you buy the zweihander around the corner on that beach is a group of like 10 birds that can drop feet and a water pond that has gold bugs for making gold feet I just shoot the birds with a crossbow while having the item discovery effect and then ride the horse back and you can get like 2 or 3 runs with 1 silver foot if you teleport back it cleans if off you so always ride the horse

  13. Also i dislike "spamming" comments, but the video is so long for just 1-2. And theres a lot to comment on. For the Night cavalry, fighting on the ground after he falls down, will make him stay without a horse much longer, and you can get more damage out. Especially with Battle arts like blood. He still summons the horse eventually though.

  14. You actually do unlock the ability to fast travel out of those mini-dungeons, but only once you've beaten the boss. Even for ones like that where it takes you to another exit.

  15. The constant attacking enemies you hate crumple with a jump attack or two, and those come out just as fast on slow weapons as opposed to fast ones. You're complaining about game design issues that have a built in work around. It might not be your perfect fix but it is one everyone has access to. It's on you if you dont want to use them.

  16. Im glad you also play the game using various weapons and armor. I never understood the people that complain on lps about using other equipment even if its way better than the intended one for that point in the game. The sbfp ds3 lp is a good example of this

  17. My main complaint with the upgrade system is it actively discourages experimentation and variety, want multiple weapons for multiple damage types? find a shiny new weapon that really tickles your pickled turtle neck? wanna dual wield? Get fucked: farm tens of thousands of runes to buy the items because drop rates are even worse than Warframes somehow.

  18. The golden order i took to mean as the elden ring being a physical representation of the laws of the world. With it shattered the world is splintered and nothing works like it should, like death for example. This also could explain co op and the like. Theres just not really an npc telling you that this time around.

  20. It's probably doesn't matter at this point but I found the default controls were really nice after a little while.
Jump on the stick sounds like a total nightmare. But having wrote this I realize that I very rarely accidentally hit the stick button anyway so you're probably doing what's best for you.

  21. The item farming sounds similar to how it is in most MMO's, you follow an efficient route picking up crafting supplies along the way, and then you go back to the start and travel the route over and over again for hours and hours to collect what you need. It's boring as shit, but it's a well established way to do crafting material farming in a wide open map when you don't want it to be too easy for your players to do so.

  22. I like how effective the scaling color values are for items on the ground, white is ok, blue is good, and gold makes you fucking drop everything for it. You can literally see Plague change mental gears at like 52:30, it's like a moth to a flame, it's gold so it MUST be important. And it's a pretty good talisman to boot, still I love the heel turn from "Eh, its probably fine to come back later for it." into the moth flying towards the gold gilded flame. It happens to everyone.
