Two people have died after a car was driven into a flooded area in Merseyside.
Officers were called following safety concerns for a man and a woman inside a black Mercedes in Mossley Hill at 9.20pm on Saturday.
The vehicle had driven into a flooded area in Queens Drive, between North Mossley Hill Road and Dovedale Road, Merseyside Police said.

Their own stupidity
Visual perception was probably a big factor, considering the age of the driver. This is why people over 55 should be tested every year to make sure they are competent to drive.
Everyone should also carry something to not just cut the seatbelt but break the glass in case of emergencies.
The road flooding as bad as this also needs to be addressed urgently.
well i live near by and actually therain came down fast and heav it took most by surprise, to be honest with cut backs and our old water drainage system its way past time for epdsting although some claim the drains are regularly maintained many drains are not
Here’s what I think happened (and it could’ve happened to anybody). They’ve probably drove into the water whilst it was a couple of feet deep and the car has cut out. They’ve waited trying to start the car not realising how rapidly the water was rising. By the time they’ve realised they need to get out the water pressure has stopped them from opening the door. Then sadly it’s too late. I’ve lived nearby for decades & have been under that bridge hundreds of times. I have never ever seen it flood not even anywhere near as bad as this. I would’ve remained in my car if I’d been in that situation because I would never in a million years have believed that that road could flood as it did. God bless those people.

Literally drove past this on friday night, saw road closed and loads of police lights, was torrential downpour lasting about 20 mins. Really sad, they were both over 70.

Don't live in Liverpool anymore but this part of Queens drive flooding is nothing new. Been happening for decades. It depends how fast the authorities can get out to it for a road closure as there always seems to be a car driven into it, normally not by locals. RIP.
