Try this $10 BROKEN filter effect for you next photo or video. The more damage you do, the more distorted the results.
UV filters are often looked down upon because they add another piece of glass between your subject and your sensor meaning a UV filter with glass worse than your lens is only reducing the quality of your image. However, they are good for protecting your lens from debris and scratches…OR being shattered and distorting the light in different ways. Since we were breaking the filter and going for a distorted look, we didn’t mind adding 2 pieces of glass on top of our lens in order to protect it from any avoidable scratches.
