  2. About twenty years ago, I and a colleague were studying in the US. He's Australian and I'm Western European. We noticed how every "Christian" Church seemed to fly the US flag on the Altar. Given that we were not "Americans", both of us found this "weird". In Australia, according to my colleague, you MIGHT, on occasions, see the Vatican flag flying (we're Catholics), but those occasions are rare. In my own country, for much of my life, there was a violent conflict going on where, as a short-hand, the denominational preferences of each side was too often used to differentiate the combatants (in reality, the conflict was far more complex than that). So, it was only on extremely rare occasions (State occasions, State funerals) that the National flag was ever allowed in Catholic Churches.
    BUT, part of the architecture of Anglican Churches in the same country, literally built into the walls, were symbols of Anglicanism's utter submission to the English Royal family and the Anglican communion's complete loyalty to the English/British Imperial project. As a colleague at home put it, you "knew where their loyalty lay" – and it was neither to the Biblical Jesus or the State in which they were living….
    If "American" "Christians" feel the need to display and see symbols of their loyalty to the US in the places where they assemble to "Praise and Worship God", one really needs to ask what, exactly, are they worshipping, especially when many of these denominations follow commandments "against Idolatry"?…

  4. actually: The “God Bless the USA Bible” includes the text of the King James Bible along with the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Pledge of Allegiance. It does not, however, include the 11th through 27th amendments of the Constitution, thus omitting the provisions that abolished slavery, granted the right to vote to women and Black people, and limited presidents to serving only two terms." just search "trump bible amendments" and there's lots of citations explaining what was omitted by fascists.

  5. Still talking about January 6th….but, no mention of the terroristic attack in New Orleans. 15 people were killed and dozens were hurt. The terrorist had an ISIS flag in his vehicle.

  9. I don’t belong to any religious belief or organization. But I think It must be heartbreaking for true Christians to have their cross and bible stolen by those wanting symbols to hide their sins. Is it possible to recover these stolen symbols? Or are they to forever remain in possession of political entities and special interest groups who abuse them. Losing them makes one realize how precious and important they really are, an important part of the glue that hold the group together. I do hope those thieves come to regret their theft.

  12. It's so sad that we're seeing the symbols of the incoming president so that places, corporations, media and the like are hoping they won't be targeted by the incoming president or his followers. (Costco isn't doing that and so now his followers are talking about boycotting them.)

    I suspect that we'll be seeing some of our churches bring in such symbols, even though it's so dangerous. As you say, we cannot serve two masters.

  14. Hi Rev, this is unrelated, but something a Priest said, who I admire, really bugs me! At a retreat, he showed a photo of the Shroud of Turin. He pointed out the nail marks, the thorns in his head..etc, and then said, "I did that! The Nails is his hands, that was me. I'm responsible for what happened to Jesus" I understand that he was talking with a youth group, but every part of me thinks that this type of theology is just not good. What about the poor person, who has a very low self image, and they hears this..that THEY put Jesus on the cross! How can this be healthy! If you see this, any thoughts? Thx

  16. Growing up something like the so-called Trump Bible with a standard Bible and other things would not be any big deal. It's just a Bible with some patriotic things added. The word of God is not altered so that shouldn't be a problem. We have Bibles with commentaries also. These don't change the word but can add study helps. Some Bibles have an apocrypha which are not canon. But, some people have to make a mountain out of a mole hill to advance a narrative. People used to be adult enough to just not buy something if they didn't like it. I certainly wouldn't buy a Bible with a rainbow on it these days.

  18. This sets us up for persecution when people like Trump grifts off of the Bible, and Church goers that espouse evil things like racism, and other cruelties that are against Christ Jesus’s teachings in that We are to Love our neighbors as ourselves. We must stand up for the Truth.

We have a Pastor's wife who is in politics and she idolized Trump snd repeats word for word his ideologies …she and many of her congregation pack and carry guns to their services ….It really turns my stomach from her and her followers and I can only imagine what people looking to find spiritual guidance will think and be turned away from following Jesus and his teaching

  31. Here’s the part that has always baffled me. If god…anyone’s god is so loving and caring and compassionate then why is god someone’s master? The very term “master” implies that you have a obligation to whatever they want. No matter how monstrous that may be. I my faith, my god is a quiet, loving, caring god who promotes being kind. Being nice…not just to folks you know but strangers too. It’s never killed me to hold a door for someone else to go first.

  32. Hey Rev why haven’t you responded to me lately. I told you lots of stuff going down in Canada. Trudeau and others to be removed as well as others. I am bothered that you don’t keep track of your Country and People. Did you r know there were some in your Country who were part of a group that was going to assassinate President Trump. I hope that you wouldn’t condone it. You still haven’t told me what’s going on. Looking forward to hearing it!

  34. But I don't worship any symbol. So, although I agree with Professor Schneider. I do not respond to the flags being displayed on the Jan 6th insurrection but' I can understand what you mean by others associating Christianity with violence. That's likely why Christians are told the story of the golden calf.

  40. theres nothing wrong with trumps name on the bible cause it has no scripture changes and is only a memoribilia version…but you hypocrits never say a thing about the john macarthur , kenneth copeland and kenneth hagin study bibles with their names on it…….people throw the word blasphemy around like water in a bottle…….go read the biblical definition…..people have the message bible and yet it is a bible that was by a man who said God told him to rewrite the bible…talk about wicked versions…..thats truly a bible that should never even be in print….
