Of course. They are lucky that nintendo didnt sued them. But who cares their nearly bankrupt.
I just upgraded my series S to X and I'm extremely happy with Game Pass and the occasional Cross Plat.
Kotaku has a lifetime supply of budlight
Kotaku is an absolute joke of a website. They're all too busy screaming and suffering from TDS.
10:35
Problem here: You are someone, whos job is connected to the gaming industry. The majority of people Spencer talked about is the casual sector, the (unfortuned) bigest part of costumers. The typical CoD/Fifa crowd. They usual stay where there friends are. And those friends are most likely staying with the same brand, because thats how people are. An early branding gives the win, and this generation (not console generation) was branded at the download era, aka PS4.
Kotaku is just a really bad news site or whatever they r classified as they talk bout some weird topics too
I'm genuinely staggered that "should a news outlet report news?" Is a question that people have to consider. Adding the caveat "but if they don't just repeat corporate press releases, they won't be given corporate press releases to report!" Makes it worse, not better
The fact that Phil is out here claiming "Good games aren't important" should be extremely worrying for Xbox users. (It certainly worries me).
I feel like Phil is shitting on his own brand to push the deal through.
When Xbox One came out, I bought one a year later after endless debate with myself about it. I still felt it Xbox was dying at that point. A few months later I sold it. Xbox started out great but started focusing on the wrong things and killed themselves off. Best for MS to just stick to PC games.
When Kotakus big writers starting leaving years ago, it was a sign of the end. Especially after Mike Fahey passed. I think the only one that is still left from then is Luke. I may be wrong though. Now the site is half the time talking about non-game things or sex in games. Especially people like Sisi and that other new writer (guy). They have become a throwaway tabloid digital garbage dump now. Fun fact, as I type they have lots of articles about Zelda. None of which I care to read.
I don't feel Phil Spencer was being tactical about it. It has been next year, next year, for like a decade already 🤔🤔🤔
Far too many people ignoring the childish reasons for the leaks.
Been an Xboxer since it’s inception in 2001 I’ve seen the good times and dark times, the golden era of 2008-2011 of 360 to the Dark times of 2013… and that Xbox One launch… to the mess of the last 3 years, it will get better it has too get better otherwise it’s done
Kotaku is trash
Here’s what it would take for Xbox to stay in the console wars for me as a PS five and switch owner: go back to the good old days of not charging people to play games online on their system. Easy. Because I hate having to pay to play online. I didn’t have to for a good while on earlier PlayStation models
Phil was being real. How many months would xbox have to be the top selling console with a large gap for them to move to second place? That is what he was talking about.
Yes.
Yes they should because they promote cancel culture and represent everything wrong with modern mainstream gaming media.
Kotaku is a terrible company with terrible people working for it.
Did not agree with Phil Spencer. On what basis he states that good games can’t make Xbox have a turn around? When was the last time Xbox had a great must-buy console exclusive? 15 years ago?
All these unprofessional companies and lying journalists should be blacklisted. From everything.
This video does not look 1080p
I was taken aback by Phil’s comment but I think you guys got it right by putting it on the context of Starfield. His comments make a lot more sense when you think of it as “*this particular big exclusive that’s on the horizon* won’t move the needle” as opposed to just all exclusives ever
To be fair to Phil, Game Pass is their whole strategy and they probably won’t be making consoles for too much longer. That is if Game Pass succeeds on the level they desire. I’ve heard stories about Xbox offering game pass to Sony, to put it on the PlayStation, which Sony obviously declined. Time will tell if this pays off for them, but one thing’s for sure, great games matter no matter what your strategy is.
I think Phil is right. When a console is $500 they're only buying one of them typically, and they have already decided which before the games are announced. It's going to be whichever one they always pick.
Peter Austin, if you don’t ignore your wife and family, and start playing video games to talk about in the “what we playin” section you are in hot water young man! Dead Island 2 the Spider has been patiently waiting, building a backlog to take your job. Plus he has 8 legs and 8 eyes, so that’s like…. 4 games at a time? How can you compete with that?
Kotaku literally did nothing wrong. Spoilers are avoidable and most people upset about them CHOSE to dig into them.
(Probably because they wanted to find another reason to blindly hate Kotaku because all the other #HardcoreGamers are doing it.)
Is it really racist if the soldier in the photo is killing Japanese people who committed horrible war crimes against other Asians? I mean, I do understand why people are saying it's racist, but people seem to forget they were on THE NAZI'S SIDE in ww2 and a lot of modern Japanese people are racist towards other Asians and black people.
Xbox will never be the most sold console by the simple fact that xbox exclusives are on PC. That the reason why Microsoft cares more about Gamepass than anything else
racisms is thrown around so much is lost its meaning lmao. nothing on that tweet was even remotely racist 1:04:00
Do you not think he was talking like this in relation to the Activision merger, make it seem like they really need it
Excellent podcast and I really like the angle you came at the last section. I also totally agree of your assessment of the word "woke" how it seems to be a catch all for certain group of people. Keep up the awesome work, because I've cancelled my cable and I sincerely need it! Thank you for all the amazing hard work and content Team Triple Jump!
Fan is short for fanatic, fans of anything are the worst thing to happen to anything in the history of everything.
Kotaku has always been weird about piracy stuff. As far back as I remember they have always talked about when things get pirated (more so console/hand held) games that are emulated on PC. Or they tend to talk about fan made games like Metroid. Which then Nintendo seems to always shut down within a few days of it being on Kotaku. So they often times lead to somethings downfall.
Kotaku: Publishes articles about piracy, emulators and major leaks.
Nintendo: Blacklists Kotaku.
Kotaku: Surprised Pikachu face. 😲
They were under no embargo or obligation to not report it so fair play to them I reckon, they're just doing their jobs and as far as I understand the article warned about spoilers so no-one had to read it, seems like emotional nintendo fanboys and nintendo themselves are getting a bee in their bonnet about very little.
53:08 Excuse me, Ashton! I like watching Spongebob Squarepants. Me and the dolphins.
No big games next month?? Errr isnt it Final Fantasy XVI on the 22nd?
“Spiteful Goolies” will be the name of my first poetry collection…
Over hype = kills games (ala Redfall) but it also must be noted that some people just don't want to play a certain game/genre of game, I have no interest in any multiplayer game and I know I'm not the only gamer that feels like that.
Xbox with its game pass rocks, I'm having great fun playing through a vast library of games and am looking forward to some of the exclusives coming out. PS5 holds no interest for me, their game pass equivelent is weak in comparison and the exclusives hold no interest (I played both God of War 2018 and Horizon Zero Dawn and had no interest in play sequels) So some of the exclusives on Xbox haven't scored highly on metacritic, at least their trying something new, not just sequels.
they deserve the blacklist imo, leaking stuff before release is taboo, worst part about it is they're supposed to be "journalists" the ones who has integrity, at the end of the day, leaking ruins it for everyone, especially for us, the consumers, we want to experience the game for ourselves. they're basically ruining our experience for the sake of being "first" or "groundbreaking" or whatever they call it. Also from what i heard is they shared the link of how to basically emulate Metroid in the article, if they really did that then they totally deserve it.
