The writing doesn't bother with accountability so I just accept it and don't spend too much processing power trying to figure things out but isn't it a sizeable plot hole that the bad guys wanted what made Jack Crusher special at all cost when all along it was the bad guys that made him special? so without what they had already he's just another drone among trillions. It's a very subtle and convoluted play, only to fool themselves. When on the D and the entire starfleet had fallen to borg control they were also a little too comfortable given the gravity of the situation. Since the episode was shamelessly indulging nostalgia they could have referenced the Generations lines "I take it the odds are against us and the situation is grim. You could say that. Sounds like fun". And more pertinently, reality is such that star trek could become real in our lifetime. Not quite first contact as they don't do it that way. More like 'Who watches the Watchers'. But first disclosure. imagine stepping onboard an actual interstellar star ship. Meeting numerous ET species. Some with Q level abilities. TNG could be so much better than later series because it wasn't written by us.
