I'm playing on PS5 and it feels like some of his halberd stikes hits me from like 25 feet away well outside the character range and hit box. Maybe it's just me….
The best strat that i found was riding on the your mount and going back and forth with pincer attacks with a weapon like a spear or something that does decent damage..worked wonder riding around on my mount just like him could get in quick and out quick..bet he was pissed

I spent hours trying to defeat this dude at the moment I finished the tutorial.
Took me two solid hours to beat him with melee right at the start of the game
This guy has a ridiculous ground slam attack that is a 360 AOE that does absolutely insane damage.
How the hell do you beat this guy?

The stutter makes me die to him everytime.
Just my 2 cents. When he backs up and comes charging at you dodge backwards towards his position. It's your best opening to hit him. Killed him right out of the tutorial that way. Now if only the game didn't have these awful stutters while fighting him..
The dumbest boss ever, like ya here’s this ground AOE attack that one shots you and the timing on the jump is so fucky.
This boss needs a nerf.
He's easy once you're able to time your rolls to his attacks. If you dodge one hit, try and circle around him so that he doesn't do a combo.
Worst attack that he has is the shield slam. You can be far from him and still take 80%-90% damage from that attack. However, I think you can avoid the AOE damage by jumping.
Ima be honest i just got on horse back and killed him LMAO beat him at his own game
For cheese, stand on church and use bow. I was able to lock on and fire from there.
I used glintblade like 30 times from the roof of a ruin to snipe him down at like level 16 as a spells word. Dude is so tanky and his reach is nuts. Dude 1/5 crimson/cerulean flask spread.
To everyone who said to do this on horseback, thank you! Made it much easier to kite his attacks.

I died like 15-20 times using the normal strats then got on torrent and no hit him instantly. Imo I think the tree sentinel fight is actually supposed to acquaint the player with mounted combat and is meant to be fought horseback.
Welp, I thought you had to fight him the first time you run into him. So I killed it before I moved on.
This is basically my first From Software game. I like how it's hard, but it's mainly hard because I suck. It's not like bullet sponge artificially hard combat.
