  1. I felt this game had way too many (grindy) meta-progression (in the worst and most boring kind possible). Every big patch, they add another grind and it's just not fun. It's all fake progression for the sake of bigger numbers.

  2. This games a tough one – it looks great and there's some interesting ideas BUT it's hella-grindy and the latest patch is a hot mess with LOADS of really obvious issues (in new and existing stuff!) – it's also added WAY more grind to a game which didn't need it.

This patch was due back in September – they said it took a long time to test so many changes but there are SO many issues and their communication has been so poor I can't really recommend it – esp given the devs have history of dropping games unfinished and moving-on under a new name – erm – yeah – maybe not – at least not yet…

Note: there's a subgenre of these games emerging – the "simple game hidden behind a metric tonne of unlocks and achievements" – Soulstone Survivors, Greedland and this are definately in there – if you like the core loop then you'll probably have some fun but don't expect it to develop or for anything major to change as you slog along…

  3. Game looks cool but I can't lie they pulled from Vampire Survivors really hard and didn't seem to do much to hide it. Stuff like the knife/bible are damn near exact copies without even a reskin or change of name

  4. I think the masteries are the ones with the fancier framing at the top they mention the point upgrades increasing stuff in the bottom of their tool tip but yeah it's all such small stuff other then the direct weapon upgrades and fusions they really seem to be transitory and for when you can't get a weapon upgrade

  5. i kinda want this to have like a story or map mode kinda like rogue genesia, the vibe seems like itd fit really well to starting off in a forest, going through caves, maybe a desecrated temple before ending at a big dracula castle. With some added persisnt upgrades between runs either artifacts like RG or your bought upgrades can be carried over but only based on specific criteria when you entered the map to where youd slowly build up an arsenal unil you get to the final castle which just starts out at giving you a massive challenge since you shoudlve gotten quite powerful by then

  6. I'm not sure how I feel about Scarlet Tower. On the one hand, they do a lot of things well and it has a decent ammount of polish. On the other hand, it feels like way too many abilities are basically carbon copies of each other, with only relatively minor differences. For example, by 7:55 you already had 4 different abilities that boil down to "a number of orbs spin around you in a circle at a fixed radius and speed. The exact numbers on each of them might be a bit different, but they all play basically the same. Most bullet heavens would have one or maybe 2 of those, not counting evolutions.

  7. Had this game since EA launch, and while I haven't played the update yet, it's a very middling game IMO. Not bad or anything, but nothing special about it. It also bothers me so very deeply that every weapon except for ONE is overtly magical in nature. Staff of absolute destruction! Orb of chaos! Crown of darkness! And then, knife. What!? It feels so incredibly out of place. There is both a snow gun and a wrapped Christmas present weapon and they somehow feel like they fit more than… "Knife."

But if you really want a new VS clone it's not like it's miserable to play or anything. The art is phenomenal; both the pixel art and the particle effects look outstanding, nothing artistically clashes, etc… and the character designs are excellent, it's kind of weird because they're so well designed they look like they're from some huge epic RPG where they have their whole story arc and everything.

I don't regret buying it, but I probably wouldn't buy it if I had played it as much as I did and didn't already own it.

  8. 15:50 "i need to pay attention to these things" truth. it's much worse playing back to back missions and having upgrades between them blur into each other.
once you're familiar, you can work towards a build, but until then…
