  1. To be honest, if you're going to watch one movie because of a film course, Princess Mononoke is a pretty great shout. Though now I'm curious as to what the other things on the course were and what the reason for picking that was (besides the tutor just being a Ghibli fan and possessed of good taste, maybe something like it being the first animated film using a digital lightbox/colouring software that's now industry standard, as well as one of the first animes to turn up in western theatres and probably one of the reasons that Avatar happened?)

    It does, however, real down in terms of not having any trains, only an iron factory. On that basis, you might prefer something like Laputa (Castle in the Sky), Kiki's Delivery Service, or of course Spirited Away.
