  1. What I really want to know is how to predict when a tornado has a gigantic wind field. Because 90% of the time, it's when I'm chasing a massive, violent wedge on a potent HIGH day that I get into trouble, as I haven't mastered how to deal with those beasts yet. I'll be like a half-mile to mile away, paralleling the tornado, and next thing I know, I'm somehow getting 150 mph winds, and I get sucked before I even have a chance to get in front of the beast, or stop and deploy.

If this sounds specific, it's because this is exactly what happened to me earlier today, around the same time this video dropped in fact. The tornado in question – the second of the day – was one of the biggest I've ever seen, and possibly the biggest I've seen in this update. One chaser reported a maximum windspeed of 267 mph, either the 2nd strongest or the strongest I've officially been around on record. It was on a path that would just clip the SE side of Hazelton and go into Tenkiller (NOT calling it "strike"). As I was coming up on it from the SE, it was either just crossing or about to cross K-15. I was alongside it on I-33. Now I don't know exactly how much distance there was between us, as I didn't have time to measure it on the map, but I was still a ways away. Against most tornadoes, I should've been fine, but not with this tornado, and as I said before, the wind field reached me, and I got sucked (I was in Dom 3 btw). That was to my memory roughly the third time that ever happened to me, getting pulled in despite being what I believe to be a good distance away.

I wasn't in the debris field either, at least, not where the dirt was at the base. As of now, the only thing that I can think of is, when I know that the tornadoes on a given day have large wind fields – as the first tornado of the day, which I intercepted before the second one, also had a large wind field, though not on the same scale – I ought to keep more distance between them than I normally do. A strong HIGH risk should also indicate that to me. But if there is some way to know for certain how large a tornado's wind field is, that'd be great. Sorry I rambled on a bit more than planned. Great video.
