  1. One of the biggest barriers for steaming in my opinion is just how technical the game is and all the options and different gear/units/stratagems/faction rules/ etc, that make this game great, but to newer players means nothing. It is kind of like the vocabulary you mention, but it goes a lot deeper than that. In football, for example, the announcers are filling time with very basic football strategy but also just a lot of "this team loves to do blah blah blah" or "this player has been so good at blah blah blah". For warhammer, the down time talk is so technical and rather than "Unit A has a gun that is really good into Unit B" or "Faction A has a strategem that lets them….." it is more streamed for very experienced players who are assumed to know all of these things. As a new player this makes watching streams nearly impossible for me as I only know one faction and when I watch two factions play that I don't know, the stratagems, gear, faction rules are all referenced by name rather than explained to a dummy 5 year old which I practically am. That is just my take on what stops me, a 40k player but very casual, from being able to enjoy streams much.

  2. You absolutely can use personal pronouns in academic essays. It's best to be direct. If you're going to show that the Gollum/Smeagol character is an allegory of Shylock from The Merchant of Venice (which is complete nonsense that I just made up), your thesis statement should be something like: "In this essay I will show that the Gollum/Smeagol character is an allegory of Shylock from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice".

At least that is what my humanities professors at the University of Chicago thought circa 2000.

  3. Guys, I appreciate "hang out" videos and I understand that answering super chats supports the stream, but there was more non-40K chat than not here, and the title indicated otherwise. Just my observation. Love what you do.
