TOP 5 Metal Bands

In this video I reveal once and for all who the TOP 5 Metal Bands are. This isn’t based on my personal opinion or subjective feelings. I use the “S WORD” Science, to measure record sales, Spotify monthly listeners, YouTube subscribers and Instagram followers. Influence is harder to account for but that should be a metric as well. Do you disagree with my list? State your argument below for the top 5 metal bands.

1. Metallica
2. Iron Maiden
3. Black Sabbath
4. Judas Priest
5. Megadeth

  1. Music album sale numbers are all over the place. You can look at some sources and they state maiden have sold 130 million albums. Followers on social media are more new school followers hence priest having an under the radar presence in my opinion. Sabbath has the Ozzy affect. He's a worldwide known personality. So many factors in this. Metallica are obviously the most renowned and have been since the black album. Their music has been more experimental since then so will always divide metal fans but be more widely accepted. All great music in the end though. Even if you don't like them you can't deny the accomplishments. 🤘🤘

  2. What is the best metal band of all time? In order to come up with an answer to this question I think you would need to create categories that are relevant for this for me this is Talent, Consistency, Influence and originality.

    Talent:
Consistently talented members (some of the best drummers, guitarists and bassists, and one of the best vocalists of all time) They also have some of the best lyricism I have seen

    Consistency:
One of if not the most consistently excellent discography I think even my least favourite album of there's is a 8/10 for me name 1 one band who has a discography as consistently great as there's with the amount of albums they realised

    Influence:
Had one of the biggest impacts musically they invented there own genre (death metal) and a hybrid genre (progressive death metal) and created a sound that is unique to them and them alone and influenced countless bands

Originality: death created on of the most unique sounds that belongs to them and them alone (particularly on sound of perseverance)

For these reasons I have to say death

To clarify I think other bands beat death on certain categories for example I think dream theater dominates death in terms of talent but I don't think any other band has has done this well in each category for these reasons I say death but that is just my opinion

  3. I think Judas Priest has more album sales because they're an older band, and a greater share of their existence was spent before the digital age, when actually buying albums was a lot more common than now.
~25% of Judas Priest's albums were released in the 21st Century, as opposed to 50% for Megadeth.
So Megadeth was probably affected more by the decline in album sales with the digital age, I think.

EDIT: And I think this is also why we're not seeing younger bands in this list. A band like Slipknot has many more Spotify listeners than even Iron Maiden, but on album sales they don't rank in the top 5. Basically the metrics are all a bit flawed. Album sales are affected by digitalization which is unfair to newer bands, whereas Spotify listeners and social media followers are only a snapshot of a band's current popularity which is unfair to bands that are past their peak of popularity.

Still, in terms of longevity and influence, there's no denying this is a very solid list!

  4. Current Megadeth is garbage. Pains me to say that but that’s how I feel. Everything from the beginning to Youthanasia was amazing. Not so much after that. Thirteen was pretty good. But everything else I don’t like. Maybe it’s the lineup changes or maybe the style they do now. I could not even finish listening to the newest record. In fact I don’t even own a copy.

  5. 24,976,540 monthly listeners and proud to say that I am not one of them, blocked in fact. Sitting at number one, are they deserving?? Absolutely, just not my cup of tea. I love the list and everyone's place on it! My favorite of all time sits at the number five spot and thats okay with me. We like what we like but statistics don't lie. Thanks for what you do!

  6. Metallica pretty much became Blink 182 after the Black Album. It’s great that they have had a lot of success but their contribution to metal, or music in general, is minimal at best.

  7. my number one metal band for the last 5 yrs has been helloween. the last live album with all 3 singers is a masterclass in, well, class. the newest studio album is easily the best sounding metal record in the last 20 years. yeah, it's super cheesy stuff, but it's metal-it's supposed to be silly and fun, and these guys are very self aware. performance wise, andi deris may be the most versatile singer in metal…..he sang all those kiske era songs for decades in a lower key, and now he's singing new harmonies instead of top lines, in different keys than he sang for years. kiske is ten times the singer he was as a young man. the drums and vocal mixes on the new record are absolutely outstanding.

  8. Dig the numbers after the first 5 albums! They still live off of those, they haven't come close to touching them since, today they absolutely suck!! But maiden every album they put out is a masterpiece! Aside from no prayer, even their albums without Bruce, the music was absolutely fucking brilliant!

  9. Metallica sucks. I hate them. Theyre more trash than thrash. Intricate guitar solos?! You're kidding me, right? Hammett has yet to construct a solo where he doesn't go out of key. He's guitarded.
    Ratt
    Dio
    Judas Priest
    Exodus

    Megadeth

  10. I really wish Metallica would get knocked off #1 just because of what douchebag fucklords the band are. Say what you want about Bruce Dickinson, even at his most arrogant he seems way less hypocritical than Lars ever was. I really feel like there's a Garth Brooks countryness to why Americans love this band so much and its nauseating.
