What no vanished!
Sinister was proven to be the scariest film of all time after many studies on people watching horror movies.
Sinister traumatized me
the top 30 scariest American horror movies of all time would be slightly more accurate.
A nightmare on elm street will always be my favorite horror movie of all time. R.I.P Wes Craven. 🙏❤
"Get out" is ridiculous, it's boring and the whole "deprogramming" with the flash was too Itchy and Scratchy Land. 😂😂😂😂
It Follows is probably the biggest sleeper on here, fantastic movie. Should probably be moved up.
agreed Exorcist number one. i watched it once and never again!
Watchmojo next year: Top 25 scariest horror movies of all time
And it starts with IT 2017 …. darn that was the worst movie ever. We all laughed so hard in the cinema (yes all of the audience) it was just not horror, it was horrible.
It follows, paranormal activity, and blair witch suck. Try hard and not scary at all
Hereditary was absolute garbage. Terrible acting and was incredibly boring.
Can't believe the original IT isn't on this, Tim curry's performance gave over 4 generations a phobia of clowns
Carrie? Evil Dead???
The hypnosis scene in the Exorcist still scares the doo doo outta me
I am SO excited for "The Strangers" trilogy
What about Scream?
Not even an honorable mention for Midsommar? It had the chops to be a genuinely unsettling movie shot in bright warm lighting
Why wasn't Friday the 13 th on this list
IT chapter one is one of my all time favorite movies! and the movies on this list that i've seen, i didn't find most of them scary, because i'm highly medicated and also don't have things i've seen recently affect my dreams in any way. for it to be scary to me, it has to be plausible, which also means i avoid watching it because "scary" translates to "depressing as hell" to me a lot of the time. 28 days later did that to me, and i spent a few days in a deep funk after watching it because the ending was just so lonely and bleak, but also because it got me thinking about how boned i'd be if a) zombies happened and b) they were fast zombies. i don't watch home invasion stuff like the strangers, because that's too real. things like the descent were tense and claustrophobic for sure, but avoided being scary to me simply because of the fact that i have no reason to go caving, ever. TCM was easily solved too; just don't go to texas (especially in the summer), don't pick up hitchhikers, and don't wander into houses that aren't yours. insidious was just silly to me, and not even in a rewatchable bonkers way like some horror movies.
Wow… #30 is IT…
Sigh
In terms of "traditional" scares, I've seen scarier movies than The Shining. But in terms of making me feel uneasy, it takes the prize hands-down. Eerie, unsettling, vivid and memorable, it works on the emotional level the same way music does — it can't really be put into words.
These lists always just have the usual picks. Never any b list or lesser known movies. Some oof the real scariest movies aren't the big box office ones or the "classics"
Tim Curry is Pennywise the Clown…full-stop. Never watched the remake…the original is better.
Babadook? Haha. All I could think about was how annoying the kid was. Finished it, but was bored and annoyed
I found Hereditary boring and everything the opposite of scary. I was quite disappointed.
The original.Pennywise scared me but the newer one …I can't look at him! Sends terror through me!
Myers, Jason, Freddy, and Leatherface are the horror Mt. Rushmore. Candyman wasn't even popular.
There is plenty of horror films, i can mention "the nun" or "silent hill"
"Whose effects still hold up today" is the biggest lie in any of these types of videos lol. I guess nostalgia comes with blinders
14 for insidious is krazy
The Exorcist for No.1?? REALLY?? That's just shamefully predictable it's not even funny. And they didn't even include the terrifying 2013 Evil Dead remake, a masterpiece in its own right.
Hereditary is this generation Exorcist but we all know nothing can ever beat the GOAT horror movie…
The same films and lists over and over. Titled just slightly different. When it comes to horror list you already know #1 will be either Psycho or The Exorcist
1:Paranormal for me was truly haunting.
2:the witch was a masterpiece
These are horror movies for kids XD
Shutter (2004) and Pulse (2001) are scarier than this entire list.
Wow no mention of Friday the 13th
I have always thought that hereditary is over rated. Maybe I just don’t understand it
Come on, so it doesn't matter what people do, if they make great movies, you will always put in the top 10 the "old ones" because they became clasic? Why do a list them, if the list was full years back? It's like saying the Tetris is the best game out there just because it started it all… secondly, in time, you get to the point where 80% of your audience won't even recognize you choices. Just because we loved them 30-40 years ago, dosent mean you can't move on and keep the " they don't do it like they used to anymore" bullcrap. PS: I agree that 15-20 of the best or in you list though.
What a predictably uninspired list. You have worthy but predictable classics like Silence Of The Lambs, The Omen, Sinister, mixed in with overrated crap like The Conjuring, Insidious, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre, along with completely bewildering entries like The Witch. Not one title was a surprise or an impressive inclusion.
Halloween and alien are good movies but they aren’t the slightest bit scary
The first "Conjuring" has NOTHING to do with Amityville. And the second only touches on it briefly, right at the beginning.
Wow sinister is all the way up to 20!? That movie scared the SHIT out of my household lol
Honestly, some of those aren't even legitimately scary. This list is missing Event horizon, Invasion of the body snatchers, Phantasm, The mist, A quiet place, Salem's lot, The Hitcher and a few others that absolutely should be on here more than some that have been listed.
Hereditary should be number 2
