The Dark Crystal did not use animatronics. All the characters were portrayed using puppets.
A bit of a surprised that Poltergeist (1982) wasn't even in this list
Gremlins: "Gizmo and his ilk end up terrorizing the town…", Gizmo was the only mogwai not to turn into a gremlin.

Wow what a way to make a video that's shadowing Children from Life. I watched Watership down when I was 6 I turned out ok. Much like Disney these days you seem to want to erase the past. 😡
The worst part about Gremlins is that it spoils a very important childhood secret about Christmas. We were not prepared for that!
I won't deny that I'm so confused by the title because I watched almost every video on this list and was not traumatized by them, lol. Maybe it's for the younger generation?? Again, so confused.

The Temple of Doom freaked me out as a kid with the bug trap. My mother hated the dining scene with the chilled monkey brains more than she hated Kate Capshaw's character.
Disney could have earned a list like this of it's own … I mean you could put any of the "Golden Age"-toons on this.
A dog of Flanders should also be on here… I cried a river on this and if I were to watch it right now I would certainly bawl like a kid… I can't even read the short story without crying a river…

Of all these movies, "Return To Oz" traumatized me the most, probably followed by the skeksis.
im still happy I got the cartoon Pinocchio to watch as a kid rather then the new live action one I was forced to sit through as an adult
ha.. the nightmare before christmas is currently my 4y/o kid's favorite movie, loves the songs and watching it every time he can XD, at first my wife and i thought he was not going to like it or that he was gonna be scared, but no, he loves it
How I miss the days of good entertainment. REAL life experiences were depicted in a way to teach that life isn't fair and there will be times and situations where we will be sad, angry, hurt, depressed and have to deal with loss. Because the more toned down things become the harder it is for people to deal with them effectively.
About to be 33 soon and I grew up on these movies. I didn't have any nightmares or anything.
I saw every single one of these growing up except two (have seen them) The Never Ending Story and Return To Oz. Seriously nothing was wrong with seeing any of them….

Yes the child catch did scare the hell out of me as a kid I'm 40 next year and still scares me
Two movies that scared me as a kid, not traumatized and not on this list: Disney's Tarzan and The Fox and the Hound. The former due to the opening scene and every scene with Sabor (NEVER the climax with Clayton's death). The latter due to the climax with the bear because the bear arguably fueled the worst nightmare I had in my entire life.
Another mention that didn't appear on this list is Sam Raimi's Spider-Man and perhaps Spider-Man 2. When I was little, I was afraid to rewatch the first due to Green Goblin's birth and murder of Dr. Stromm. I didn't even learn till I was much older that Raimi first became famous for making horror movies like The Evil Dead and he incorporates elements like jumpscares in almost all of his works (look at Oz the Great and Powerful).

I disagree with the premise of this list.
My absolute favorite thing about Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is the fact that that same tunnel scene earned it a spot on Bravo’s 100 Scariest Movie Moments😂😂😂
I watched about 16 out of 20 of these films and loved them all. None ever frightned me. These day, ppl r so sensitive for their kids. And the generations that watched those and loved them, r starting to rethink about it. That's destroying parts of their own childhood by wishing they saw them later. With trying to keeps things of what today days is okish for kids, need to lighten up.
I hate to say this but here goes: My kid is finally at an age where he wants to see more "older" movies. So when he asked me about Indiana Jones I was thrilled. We sat down to watch Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was SO DAMN BORING. We both fell asleep. I remember loving it as a kid; but now it's just a slog with a few great moments.
Return to Oz? What about that super creepy made-for-tv one "Through the Looking Glass"???
Fairy Tale Theater with Shelly Duval. Especially the one with Rapunzel traumatized me for over 24 years.

Some of these entries being considered "terrifying" when viewed from today's lens speaks volumes about the current state of things and how fragile people have become though.
I worked in video rental stores 20 years ago. At that time, many parents were already censoring certain films for their children. And at the same time, studios started to make lighter and lighter movies for children, to the point that PG movies also became too light. Now we have all this boring softness.
What’s also sad about All Dogs Go To Heaven is that it was Judith Barsi’s last movie and it came out after her death and the end scene is super saddening when you think about it
I remember watching Raiders Of The Lost Ark at a young age…at night. 🤦🏼♂️That melting face scene along with the skeleton and mummy scene is truly terrifying
Watership Down was among my favorite books when I was a child, owing to the fact that my bedtime stories back then was Tolkien's The Hobbit. Fantasy is at it's best when it blends into reality. Take Harry Potter for example.
That having been said, if you like Tolkien's works and Watership Down, I recommend a book titled Tailchaser's Song.

My dad rented Watership Down from the library for me. He thought it was just a cartoon about rabbits. I was traumatised!!!

The point of telling stories with upsetting themes to kids is to prepare them for adulthood (brothers Grimm, classic nursery rhymes, etc), so these movies are totally appropriate (depending on the temperament and age of the child). My daughter has actually seen half of them, and her biggest complaint is that they were boring, lol. Kids are not as fragile as some people think. They’re mini humans, and part of being human is knowing how to deal with all the crazy and horror in the world, which you certainly can’t do if you don’t even know it exists. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, though!
I honestly feel that because the movies I saw as kids have more depth to them than kids movies now is the reason they hold up well. I could watch any of these movies now and not only feel nostalgic, but take in so much more. Like yeah I didn't get everything when I was a kid, but the story was good and entertained me, now watching I understand more, and enjoy it even more. I love these movies, all of them, although The Dark Crystal gave me nightmares lol
My siblings used to call me crazy for laughing at the scary scenes in movies😂 I just didn't take it serious because I knew it was fake
I remember watching Return to Oz as a kid, but it didn't traumatize me. When I watched it on TV they edited out some of the scary parts. It wasn't until I was an adult that I got it on DVD that I saw the scary parts that were edited out! All in all Return to Oz is still my favorite film!
