I remember all of these and more. As a child, one of my favorites was King Kong Escapes. It featured King Kong battling a robot version Kong.
Creature from the Black Lagoon, if I remember correctly was done in 3D. Although 3D movies tend to be gimmicky, no exception here, it was well done. This was especially true in the underwater scenes.
Simply put, the monsters of the 1950s were done by technicians and artists, using special effects and makeup. People doing the work . Now , it's just CGI. I stop going to the movies today for just this reason.
What the hell happened with the editing in 'The Mummy' section?
Creature of the Black Lagoon was a late arrival to the late 30's/early 40's Universal monsters. Have to wonder if Universal could have one or two other classic monsters introduced then.
Steve McQueen received $3,000 for his starring role in The Blob. He turned down an offer for 10& of the profits for an up-front fee, thinking the film would never make money. He needed his signing fee immediately to pay for food and rent. The Blob went on to gross 4 million bucks.
I hate CGI too.
Decades ago, I met Steve McQueen at a 24-hour racing event. I had a chance to talk with Steve for few minutes. I asked Steve about his role in "The Blob." Steve just grinned and said, "You've gotta start somewhere." Thanks, Marvelous Videos!
