  1. Saying that Cruel Summer doesn't have a bridge when its bridge is literally the highlight of the song 💀 "he looks up grinning like a devil" is literally the best part of the song, which is in the bridge section

  2. Saving 1 or 2, everything is a disaster. The musical quality has gone down a lot. 🤦‍♂️ I agree that many have that 80s vibe but in a silly, superficial and commercial way. The Cure example (7:45) is perfect, they are just "nice" eighties gingles but they have no mystery or real depth.
You can tell that the musicians don't really have a real musical culture of the 80s or another decade, and they only have knowledge of 4 commercial things and make a rather hollow imitation.

  3. Those that can, usually do. The rest are critics. Don't let 'em get to you, Rick. Love your channel. So much valuable music knowledge shared here. Happy New Year!

  4. I like Bruno Mars, but I don't like a lot of his music. That song is OK. Boring, IMHO. Oddly, Mars' elocution is quite poor which is frustrating. And I don't like Lady Gaga. She can sing – no doubt about that, but I really dislike her whole schtick and her music makes me want to vomit 🤮

  5. When I heard The Weeknd's demo EP, I thought it was awesome and was so excited for more.

Unfortunately, I've not liked anything else that I've heard. Again, he can sing – he has an excellent voice. But why are all his songs so ballady and poppy? I feel like he sold out in order to reach a wider audience. And I guess it worked!

  6. "There's no such thing as selling out anymore, man. I mean, nowadays, if you don't sell out, people will wonder if nobody asked you to."

Connor4Real aka Andy Samburg from "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping".

  7. Is Taylor Swift's "Cruel summer" better than Bananarama's? (Theirs has a bridge, although it's an instrumental one.) We also had a "Cool summer" this year (Special EFX). I say both of these this year had Bananarama on their minds.

  8. some of yall in the comments pmo with all your complaining, its really not as serious you're making it. "nothing worth listening to" "super dull" "unimaginative" okay how about you go and make a song #1 in the WORLD and I'll maybe hear you out. Truth is many of these songs ARE in fact filled with talent, imagination, and soul. If you can't see it then you might need to open your perspective a little more than to whatever bullshit 60s music youre married to.

  9. I had a student ask to learn Espresso and Please Please Please recently, both surprisingly good, but Please Please Please is a much better song imo, better melody and chords and a nice key change in there, and then key change back into the chorus.

  10. I found that I don't have Rick's enthusiasm for the generic, breathy, no emotion, no depth, no power little girl singing voices that were popular in 2024. The guys are worth listening to. Give me Bruno Mars, Hozier, Teddy Swims.

  11. Im starting to get the feeling that Rick might now like Taylor Swift.
Lmao, there is a bridge on that song plus it's written by Taylor swift and 1 other person, she apparently also co produced it.
While not my usual taste, the song's solid.

  12. Easily….Waiting for Stevie by Pearl Jam…the BEST rock&roll song for far in the 2024…the power bass line, the guitar chords, the drums, Eddie's Melody voice and Mcready's guitar solo…rock&roll still Alive men

  13. I liked a lot of it until the Autotuned nightmare at around 9:30. The "guitars" are worth investigating on some of them, it's worryingly easy just to stick sampled riffs in tracks now. I agree on the production, why do vocals have to be so processed and 'sit' on the music? They need to be in the music.
