  1. …and that's only a few mostly from California and a couple from Florida. Most deaths ( or injuries ) on any rides at any theme park, water park, or amusement park truly is 99% of the time the fault of a rider either ignoring a medical warning or defeating or ignoring ride safety rules and equipment… This includes parents not keeping track of their children appropriately. That said it's obvious from this list which is a factual 97% with a few minor unimportant factual quibbles… occasionally the parks are completely at fault. When you just look at those Disney safety statistics are better than the majority out there by far but then again they also have more money than anyone else by far and no one will truly know how far that goes to keep some of it a little quieter at least enough to fade into the background. I'm a former Disney World cast member and I remember my very first day when I started at Epcot someone died on splash mountain. We heard about it very quickly after it happened within the hour I'd say, but it didn't become general public knowledge until later that day and of course the reasoning wasn't released publicly for a bit but that was known too to us right away.

The guy defeated his safety restraint during an emergency stop, got out took pictures with the animatronics, tried to get back in the boat but couldn't get back under his safety restraint and when the ride started up is when he made his attempt, but that was the end of that life…. I won't bother to recount the medical details here. Despite repeated announcements about staying seated in your boat during the delay the guest took it upon himself to ignore it and the dozens of signs up and down the attraction. Terrible thing to say that it was his fault but that's the truth. That's an in the nutshell description of the event and it did cause Disney from what I understand to install a lot more cameras along the ride path. Some of you out there may know more about this than I do because I wasn't working at MK at the time and didn't bother to read all the news reports or listen to all the scuttle but after the fact. We were given a statement to repeat if someone approached us with questions but I usually just deferred everybody to a manager and chose not to comment on it simply stating I didn't know enough about it to say. I quickly decided it was a hot potato I didn't wanna handle especially since I had just started and honestly we weren't expected to especially if we had a manager handy. I'm sure some of you remember hearing about this incident it was pretty well publicized.

  2. While all of these events are tragic, if you are that stupid to get out of the car while riding or climbing the fence to get to the Monorail or decide to try & swim in the Rivers of America, I don't have a lot of sympathy for you.
