  1. Merry Christmas!

If I remember correctly, Dragon Quest Monsters came out after Pokemon in the states, but in Japan, it's the other way around! So that makes your criticism of the article even more valid.

  2. I swear these articles go by the premise of 'You collect and/or breed monsters? Must be a ripoff of Pokemon!' instead of realizing it's a genre of game unto itself. Like saying an apple is an orange is a plum; all three are fruit, but they're nothing alike.

  3. "Monster taming" would be too accurate and wouldn't get the clicks they need. As a pokemon fan/monster tamer fan I'm getting tired of their bs and not going to interact w nonsense like what they're doing.

  4. Did You Know Gaming basically covered the fact that Dragon Warrior Monsters with its randomized dungeon floors is the exact kind of game that Game Freak wanted so desperately to make at first with the entire map being randomized and even the monsters you encounter being randomized. They couldn't get it to work properly, so they settled on split versions with Red and Blue. So even back then, not only did Pokemon get inspired from the older Dragon Quest games, but Dragon Quest games were able to achieve what Pokemon wanted to do originally.

  5. Of course they are going to use the term " Pokemon clones" because attracts more media, i don't think most people even realise that "monster taming games" is a type of videogame yet. They do the same with souls like games, and some so called souls like games don't even had that much in common with DS
People will call any games pokemon clones if they have a bestiary of monster that you can use in battle, does not matter if you have to catch them or not

  6. Yes the Dragon Quest monsters 3ds remake Is Japan only BUT there's a full English patch for it and if you have a Japanese 3ds and have any knowledge of basic rom dumping you can get the English Patch onto an actual game cart of Dragon Quest Monsters 3ds

  7. "Pokemon Clone" Is such a disrespect towards any game even remotely similar to pokemon that is actually trying to be different while cashing in on the Monster Taming Genre themes. Pokemon is a Game, not a Genre, it's simply the most popular game in it's respective Genre at the moment, it can and will be toppled eventually, as soon as Pokemon gets some actual competition from devs that show they actually know what they're doing when it comes to game design.

  8. When you say a Digimon Story game is a pokémon clone because it plays more similar to Pokémon when compared something like World or Survive you're throwing pretty much every Turn-Based RPG under the bus.

  9. 5:28– Since I've yet to see anyone point this out, this list finds a new way to make one facepalm; They didn't even use a screen shot that's actually from DQMJ2. Unless I'm seriously misremembering (which I'll safely doubt) or this image came from content added into DQMJ2 Pro (which I didn't play due to it sadly never releasing State Side), that image they used to talk about DQMJ2 came from a completely different DQ game. They couldn't even at least use a right image for it, which sticks out even more given they at least found correct ones for the other entries on their list. As someone who grew up with both DQMJ 1 & 2, this list just finds new ways to annoy me in addition to perpetuating the "Pokeclone" misconceptions that I'm sick of…
Anyway, thanks for the video Ed. And Merry Christmas at the time when this video came out.

  10. I remember owning Dragon Quest Monsters II Cobi's Journey alongside Pokemon Blue and Crystal and even THEN I didn't consider Dragon Quest Monsters II a Pokemon clone! I understood that you didn't catch monsters with balls, you had three monsters at a time that followed you, and you went to randomly generated zones with keys and fought bosses. It was NOTHING like Pokemon.

  11. There are a couple Digimon games that are similar to Pokémon, but Cyber Sleuth ain't it. As for the original Ni No Kuni, one of the reasons I like it so much is because it's like Pokémon. Granted, the most Pokémon-like version is the Japan-exclusive DS version which I believe was turn-based. But yeah, all in all, not the best in quality article. Then again, is there ever a good quality Poke-clone article? lol

  12. tbf at least the first sentence of the article is about how Pokemon is the most popular "creature-gathering" so they aren't saying on the get go that the game bellow are just copying pokemon. People who don't know the terms would be bounds to look up for "Pokemon-like" or "Pokemon-clone" it's like searching for "Game like Metroid"
Tho as "monster taming" get more and more used, Pokemon-Clone should be less and less used too.

  13. joker 1 and 2 are much better than pocketmon in ds in everythig: graphic, battle system, skills and so on.I wish pocketmon on ds didnt have that such plain battle combat graphic…

  14. This again? Eye roll. I wish people stop saying that anything Monster Taming related is not the same as Pokémon. It's like saying every Open World game after BOTW are ripoffs of it or any Action games after Dark Souls that's very hard are rippoffs of it as well.

  15. One thing I think not a lot of people realize is Pokémon was by no means the first monster collection game there where definitely others like dragon warrior monster that came way before Pokémon
