I've had to be recertified year-after-year working at the hospital and are firemen would teach us CPR. The course was all day long. People wanted to do it on a dog mannequin. We had every different age possible. Yes, I love my pets and animals probably more than most people, but my God!- I was ready to leave! đ„Ž The chest compressions and breaking a rib or injuring the sternum would be hard on someone who's out elderly and why I would choose to never be resuscitated at a old age. Young, that's a different story. Break ribs if you have to & attempt to safe a life.

CPR does save a lot of lives. And yes we can't be scared of breaking their ribs! Would you rather be alive and heal or dead. My Dad detached all his ribs from his front and back in a crushing injury. My mom brought him back. He healed almost 30 yrs ago and is still alive today.
