Before today I had never heard a Johnny Cash song. I know this is a cover to the Nine Inch Nails song and I made sure to listen to that last night on my own so that I could get a better understanding of Johnny Cash’s cover today but man… Johnny Cash sure knew how to pull at my heart strings in this one.
Hurt is one of those songs that I won’t be able to listen to all the time due to how emotional it is but It is a song I will never forget!
Here is my reaction to hearing Johnny Cash – Hurt for the first time. I hope you enjoy it!

Okay so now you're ready for Tori Amos – Winter, ideally the live in Montreux version from 1992…. well, as ready as you'll ever be. 🙂
Enjoy every day…I am 57…yesterday I was 25…it goes so fast.
I remember when this song/video came out. It was before the days of YouTube. I honestly can't even remember how I watched it, but it was on my computer. I had already been a huge NIN fan, and stood 8 feet from Trent Reznor when he closed out a concert in the late 90's with this song. That was the most incredible concert experience of my life, and will never be topped. When Johnny Cash released this cover, I broke down in tears. It was haunting. It felt like Trent wrote the song for Johnny, or you could envision Trent singing it as an old man. You couldn't write a script better than this. And then his wife died shortly after, and then he died. And the song had even more meaning, and weight.
I can't believe that was all in 2003. I don't know what's happening to time, but I can't believe it was 21 years ago. I'm almost an old man compared to my 20-something self!!!
You don't want to get old, but unless you die young, you will get old and wonder what happened to all the years.
Check out his cover of Rusty Cage
Watch the movie Walk the Line.
This is a tough one to get through. Rip
Ride bikes, drink coffee, listen to Johnny Cash
Cash was quite a naughty boy in his lifetime, not a great husband or father, but he seemed to get his act together towards the end.
Very interesting guy.
We all get old if we’re blessed.
Oooh we gotta do more cash later. Man in Black is a must! Cheers for doing this. Also, to be clear, Johnny covered this to question his own shit, not because he was a drug addict. NIN song is explicitly about heroin addiction. Johnny never had that disease, but he had his own questions. It is, metaphorically, his contrition to some degree. He knows he's on the way out and questions if he did enough or if he did well at all. It's very sad.
wow– just burst into tears…. again… and i've probably watched that video at least a dozen times or more
Trent himself has said that the song is now Cash's
I think you mashed this one man. No shame in shedding a tear. I get torn up every time I hear this.
A great song sung by Johnny. Don't be fearful of growing old as there is only one permanent and unpalatable alternative.
Great Reaction 🎬🤘
Molly…if thjs song either version, doesn't mess with your emotions, then you need to check your pulse..
This is nothing less than beautiful..
Johnny did a whole album of covers , this probs the best.
But he did do rusty cage by Soundgarden..
Johnny cash singing a Chris Cornell song…
Thats just respect bruv…
Johnny cash didn't die…
He just disappeared into legendary status in the ether…
He is here forever…🙏🏻🩵🤘🏻
Lit 🔥
Johnny has SO MANY really good songs. One of my personal favorites is "Sunday Morning Coming Down".
Get Johnny Cash’s greatest hits, and go watch Walk The Line. You’ll have an even deeper appreciation for this song.
I see older people then realize their my fucking age! My spirit still feels Young, that doesn't change. My outside doesn't match my inside anymore, that's all.
If you don't get emotional you not REAL….
Hahaha, you got sad. Pussy
Last song he recorded and I’m a huge NIN fan love it couldn’t believe he did this cover and not that it’d be his last song ever 😭
As a drunk…
That hits the feels hard
That feeling that you're feeling…. That's what music does, no matter the genre 🥰
Thanks, Molly.. one of JC's last songs.. he was an incredible writer and performer… appreciate your reaction… (p.s. I would love if you got got around to George Jones.. in particular "He stopped loving her today")…
There no 'good' day to listen to this one.
Long live Tommy Brown
Other than Trent/NIN “gifting” the song to Johnny (“it’s his song now”) I’ve not heard of another artist who has done that ❤️🩹
Mollyboy… been a fan for a bit but I gotta say.. your absolute respect for older artists totally won me over. Yea… this seems like a reach but OMFG if you know the Cash story this song was so ON POINT. Just so you know, I’m 55 and a commercial fisherman in Alaska and follow you every release. Respect. There were those that came before this/your generation. Own it. You’re magnificent.
Music brings emotions
Young man, getting old is the most valuable thing😊
I remember when Johnny Cash died. I was in a record store ironically when the news broke over our phones. I looked up to another shopper and said, "Johnny Cash died." He said, "I know." We embraced in silent tears. And spoke no words.
Everyone understands regret.
Seeing a man’s entire life flash across the screen in 3 minutes as he sings about wishing he could have another try… it hits us all in a place we don’t like to visit.
This is a man who lost himself somewhere along the way, and despite all his fame and fortune, reaches the end of his journey with regret, painful memories of mistakes that will continue to haunt him until his final day.
What do you regret? What WILL you regret? When your journey reaches its conclusion, will you have lived the life you wanted, or betrayed yourself in pursuit of an empire of dirt?
You will have your own stories guy! You matter and you have your whole life ahead of you. I believe we will be together in heaven one day, there is hope!
Johnny Cash/Ring Of Fire lyric video.
Last recorded music video for dear departed Jonny Cash, The Original Man in Black. Beautiful
React to his last original song, I think it's his best. "When The Man Comes Around". He passed soon after recording it.
Of course the alternative is to die Young. Who wants that? No good choices when the time comes….. And it will come. 💔
Im in my mid 40's and even at this age, my 30tirs just t flew by. And now Im a 44 yr old grandfather twice ovef. My zon and my daughter.
When you say you don't want to get old, think about that. 😉 The only way you don't is to die young. Great reaction!
