Tomb Raider – the Ice Climb Diorama – with Elegoo Mars 3 and Neptune 3 PLUS

3D print and paint a realistic Lara Croft climbing an ice wall.

Thanks to Elegoo who provided the Mars 3 and the Neptune 3 PLUS – both are awesome printers and I could not have done this without them.

I do love Tomb Raider and I have had this model on my to do list for over a year. I was mulling over how to do the ice wall as there are so many different ways but getting the translucent look was an issue. I did the ice cavern a few months ago and transparent filament was the answer but my ice wall was too big for my current printers. Before I sliced it up into little pieces to fit on my existing printers, Elegoo stepped in and offered me their new Neptune 3 PLUS. It is a sweet printer and has worked really well. I was surprised the icicles printed so well but they came out perfectly being more transparent at the bottom as you would expect.

  1. Hi Kathy, another stunning diorama, Lara looks so life-like, it's like looking at a photograph of a real person, and the ice-wall is superb, anyway, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, stay safe, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.

  2. That FDM worked pretty slick . I just picked up the Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro for my daughter for Christmas so we are floundering trying to figure out and finding settings . Our third try wasn't to great lol Filament kinda wasn't going down right and had gaps. But after re-leveling and raising the print head up a tad its working , but still not sure if it's right . Our first ( Well second Printer since the month before I bought another brand and it was a nightmare and Elegoo worked right out of the box for us ) printer was the Mars 3 Pro we got 3 months back and I am really liking Elegoo thus far for what it does . Other thing that I like is Lychee Slicer works for both printers so I dont have to dance around with slicers . Wonder if a model like yours if you put a blue LED inside if It would make it glow some at night fir a nightlight 😉

  3. That is beautiful, thanks for sharing your work. As a now retired mountaineer, I can tell you that ice climbing is brilliant fun and cliffs like that one are really hard. However, this piece made me want to climb again, despite my aching bones! ðŸĪŠ

  4. She looks awesome! All the tech stuff and 3D printing make my head spin and while I can't do it myself, I do like other people being great at it. Can you do a video on ways to really fixate scenery? I have to move things around quite a bit so brushes etc break and ground cover and flock wear off quite quickly. I've done various experiments with making trees removable which works great except, I can't figure out how to store them. I'd love to hear your tips on making dioramas super sturdy.

  5. I love how they talk about empowerment and realism and then still use bulky scarf that really don't fit properly under the coat collar and expose most vulnerable part of throat to frostbite to make her more feminine 😃 but diorama still is simply stunning
