Tom Skilling there in Chicago is like Gary England here in Oklahoma. Both men are incredible in their chosen field. Tom introduced me to meteorology when I used to live in the Chicagoland area back in 1979. "Chasing the Wind" with WGN's Tom Skilling (1994 Documentary)
Wow! Years ago, and I do mean YEARS ago…we used to be able to get WGN weather on our big satellite dish. Being in New England and flying hot air balloons, we found Tom's forecasts more comprehensive than most and were very appreciative of his vast knowledge. Sadly, when we moved on from our big dish, we no longer could received WGN. Tom had the absolutely BEST graphics and gave the most complete weather forecasts than any other. So glad to see that he's been going strong all these years. Enjoy a wonderful retirement! You most certainly deserve it!
I've been a fan of Tom for a long time, the likes of him and James Spann is what got me interested in weather. Congratulations on your retirement, Tom!
I watched a lot of WGN when it was a superstation and always enjoyed the way Tom delivered his weather reports! Congratulations Tom, a retirement well deserved from a 64 yo fan in Kansas.
Class act. Although born elsewhere he was a West Aurora high school grad done good. Hope that back in the day he drove a little south to nearby Oswego where I grew up, to enjoy the ice cream from the Deri Hut and the small town feel of the place.
Tom Freaking Skilling, the MAN, the LEGEND, a genuine individual who always kept it positive , you had and still have a sense of humor, and gave credit to wgn , his colleagues, and the viewers. You kept it real Tom freaking Skilling. Have a happy retirement. May you have love, peace and happiness. A shout-out from Minneapolis, MN.
Happy Retirement to you !!! Always loved your weather reports !! We used to get your channel on our cable channel in here in St Paul Minnesota ! To a cool guy happy retirement you deserve itβ€β€β€β€β€!!!!
Back in 2001 I interned at Fox News Chicago Ch. 32 with Rick DiMaio and Harry Volkman for a couple of years. Rick loved Tom and they frequently chatted on the phone despite being on rival news stations. I had an opportunity to speak with Tom Skilling on the phone once and he kept saying, "Well, I gotta go. Lots to do!", but he would keep talking. I loved it. Growing up in Chicago, I've always (like I'm sure most of you) enjoyed his forecasts in the Tribune. Happy Retirement, Tom!
One of the best meteorologists of all time
