I would love to see a Disney Classic emphasis. Theming, movies, everything. It's like when Coke tried to rebrand and everybody hated it. Then they called it classic and everyone loved it. If they would return to the classic Disney elements, they would make a killing, rather than killing what their wider base loves.
Where does this man get his shirts?!?! I want it!!
I hope that this Reflections Lakeside Lodge can officially be built soon. I'll hate it if it's canceled. I love that these cabins somehow look like what the themed is supposed to be.
I came back to this video and think that I am truly in the middle. I think the hate on the DVC side is not warranted. I think DVC will market all design to that group of future owners so that would be the negaitve for some. I think the cabins being styled to this style is not that bad. I think protecting the log home trailer look is maybe my style being from KY but I also like the other style as it is built here now on lakes. Its still the same lifestyle, same purpose, and just as nice. The style of home is no less cabin. I will only draw a hard line on the rest of the village but wonder if Disney views "old timey" frontier as racist, outdated, or cutlure insensitive…. they are just fnnn stupid lol (This may not be true but cannot understand the intent)
Maybe now you understand how many of us feel about the retheming of Splash Mountain, Tom. To us, Splash Mountain is iconic, and has an important place in the Disney magic that we know and love. I feel like my Disney experience is a thing of the past, and the voices shouting "change and upgrade" are winning. So sad!
I am sick of the direction WDW is headed, there is no reason left to stay on property, slap on a decal and call it theming just like Six Flags does. This obsession with these popcorn buckets and working everyone up over junk merchandise because its some made up promotion is absurd. I am seriously looking at other places to take my business. Disney will have to work hard to regain my business.
Disney and the government reps need to sit down and hash it out. Leave out Iger and DeSantis out of negotiations since it seems personal. Neither of them has a slam dunk of a case. They will both spend millions on lawyers which will get passed on to taxpayers and customers. No one wins but the lawyers.
Absolutely agree with your commentary about FW. As a 30+ year Fort Wilderness RV visitor, it sickens me to think the charm and "Wilderness" will be lost. We are now looking at bringing our new grandchildren to Disney and I fear our next generation will not have the experience our children once enjoyed . I was greatly disappointed in seeing the mess of golf carts that now park in the center of the settlement area. It may be convenient, but in my eyes it just managed to trash the area up. As you stated, the new cabins resemble "garden sheds" I see no rustic, wilderness charm in those so called cabins. Sadly I suspect our family will be forced to seek other accommodation's in the future. Time will tell.
I stayed at fort wilderness with my grandkids and kids and the place needs an overhaul. I have been staying there since the park opened but this time I noticed how kid unfriendly the walking areas are. My grandsons could run into a street easily while we were walking around the property. The bike paths still are too close to vehicles. It would be great to have them redo the paths to keep kids away from cars. Plus the cabins are not family friendly. The interiors need to be rearranged. Plus it would be great if they add solar panels and make it sustainable. Sure no one likes changes, but sometimes it’s necessary.
the only question i have is can i buy one or two of the old cabins and move them out of there
I have to agree with Tom, too much nostalgia is being removed from Walt Disney World. The entire reason why you have repeat customers is because adults can show their own children things that they saw when they were young. The idea of making Fort Wilderness a DVC resort is entirely short sighted. As a DVC member I can tell you flat out, I have no interest in staying there. Heck, I don’t even stay at the Wilderness Lodge (well, one time). Your clientele should be what dictate your direction. All of the DVC resorts are upscale, why would I want to “camp” in the woods? This is something I can do locally. I go to Disney to be pampered, I’m on a vacation! This is not a good decision and will lead to less interest in the theme parks.
While we’re on the subject, I think it’s about time they returned to the way things were with regards to visits and park hopping. No reservations and no restrictions at any parks. We used to park hop all day long. It’s why I purchase the option in the first place, if one park is crowded…I can move on to one that’s not as crowded.
I’d be reallocated happy if they did away with necessity of the Walt Disney World app as well. I’d rather not carry my smartphone everywhere and I don’t wear a watch (smartwatch either) when on vacation. It’s family time and I don’t want those everyday reminders with me. The boards in the parks were easy enough to see upon entry and each attraction has its own wait time indicator. It’s taking away from the spontaneous excitement.
I know there are people that like it, so don’t do away with it…just don’t make it mandatory.
There are so many things that I miss from days gone by, Disney used to help remind me of those things. Now, it reminds me less and less. There’s that and the less crowded, less expensive, less pushy park down the road. Things that Disney should be considering to stay on top.
Sometimes less is more and Disney has forgotten about that. They keep on trying to “one up” the local competition so much that they forgot why that competition was so far behind, nostalgia.
None of the other local theme parks have nostalgia, they’re not old enough. If Disney truly wants to be “the place to be”, stop trying to be Universal and just be Disney. Your patrons will thank you and return.
I hate what they’re doing to Fort Wilderness! The new “cabins” don’t fit the theme, but the powers that be wouldn’t know theming if it bit them in the backside. Plus, DVC is like a cancer spreading across the WDW property. If these folks wanna’ “stay” at Disney, buy a house at Golden Oaks! Leave Fort Wilderness alone! It’s great as it is(was)!
The fact that they didn’t take a penny off the pin price to make it $19.98 the year the park opened is crazy
Are there even that many DVC members out there to be booking all these new and already built DVC rooms?
Staying in July, depending how it goes this time, and future prices I'll go again. Will see, but they are changing to much stuff
Tom, rant right on target. I don't always agree with the rants, but this one we definitely do.
The Definition of a "cabin" is…" a small shelter or house, made of wood and situated in a wild or remote area", all those boxes are checked. That being said the new concept cabins are really pretty and modern energy efficient. The old ones were very dated and I'm sure were showing their age. Personally, I'm more interested in staying in these now.
I used to work at Trails End and I'm very sad they are going in this direction, continuing to de-theme. 😥
With you Tom. Those cabins are classic and the last bastion for large families affordable stay.
Rant on Tom Re: cabins @ Fort Wilderness
TOM
My whole family is with you 1000 %
We enjoyed our cabin vacations at least 25 times over the years. Disney Corporate doesn't get NOSTALGIA!!!!!
They're clueless about what Walt wanted & envisioned for American families.
Next vacation…we're going to Tokyo!
Tom, do you know why your vlog is so popular ?
It's because you represent, reflect & comment on what's really important to us, DISNEY FAMILY.
Unfortunately. It's all in the past now. ALL GONE!
You are the last stronghold for what Disney used to stand for.
Just memories now.
But the reason why we want to relive those memories today with OUR children no longer exists. The greed Corp has killed it!soooo sad that I've lost my Happy place!
Disney's just raping the land to no end. It just keeps getting worst every year. I get it if they are doing this for business reasons and trying to keep up with the times. But if this is for business reasons. Then what is the target demographic? I just don't get it.
Tom, how do the button-ups run on sizing? Similar to Disneys?
I’m heartbroken. Our first family vacation 40 years ago was in a cabin in FW and we just went in October. We only ever stay a the Fort. Too many vacations to even count. Shame on Disney for ruining that place😢
I totally agree with you on what they are doing to the cabins at fort wilderness 😢wake up Disney and bring back the magic,If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
New cabins are so much better than the cheap trailers with cheap fake log siding! The new ones will make FW so much better. Only thing I dislike will be DVC.
@24:42 in the video. Instead of building a low income housing town. They really should be building a corporately own town so they can provide free housing to their cast members. With rent cost spiraling out of control. It would make sense to have a town in where you have direct control over the cost of running it. By eliminating one of the biggest living expenses from cast members budget. You can now pay cast member less and be able to afford to provide full benefits as well. Plus. All the CM's would be within walking distance of work.
Those new cabins look like shipping container garden sheds.
Agreed- those aren’t cabins. They’re “tiny homes’ built to look like they’re made from storage containers.
For years the blame was put on Bob Chapek saying he was responsible for all of Disney’s problem. The truth is that it goes deeper than just one person. The company is rotten at the core ruled by the liberal mob and profits above experience. The comparison to Tokyo preserving Disney isn’t accurate as they are tearing down Space Mountain to go with a more modern look. Quite similar to updating those Fort Wilderness cabins that are also really outdated. That said the concept art seems to take it too modern. Wilderness lodge like cabins would be a better model.
I really, really don’t want to say this, but those designers need to be fired. I’m sorry.
I’m a permanent DVC member, and this really bothers me. They could’ve done something with the Reflections land but then again, that land should’ve been replaced with trees and natural beauty.
Can classic Disney ever come back? I’m not so sure anymore. Very disappointed in the direction the company is moving towards. Universal will get my business for the foreseeable future.
Has anyone else noticed that the geniuses in marketing have designed a "wilderness cabin" with windows you mostly can't see out of?
Fort Wilderness is going the way of Frontierland in MK. Very few visitors remember who Davy Crocket was. That it was a popular tv show that had a hero dressed in buckskins with a rifle out exploring and hunting and Indian fighting. No little kids want fur hats with racoon tails. Its a generational thing. The age of the tv western is gone. Its nostalgia and not currently popular. Fort Wildernes was camping, roughing it, doing disney without hotel pricing. Kind of a combo vacation of camping, and resorting at the same time. Kids got to be explorers they got to rough it like pioneers they got to live in a cabin like Dan'l Boone and Davy Crocket, maybe even horseback ride like a real cowboy. Now its RVs and modern cabins. There aren't any current Disney movies or tv shows to theme it after. Not defending the lack of theme, but there isn't any Disney product to model it on.
The new fort wilderness cabins look like a combination of truck trailers & mini homes created for homeless people out of trailers..very stark & stripped of any personality or any typical Disney story telling..what the heck Disney?! 👎🏻🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
They’ve never been “cabins”. They’ve always been trailers with a lot of wood. Now they’ll be trailers with a garden shed skin on em.
when you say "well, its better for the animals" You should stop there.
You all forget, Disney is a Corporation. A corporation exists for the shareholders. If turning the dusty old cabins into DVC makes more $$$$ then DIS is going to do it to the delight of Shareholders.
