Look at the size of this lad! What an absolute unit.
I have a female. She's about 45 inches long from head to tip fo tail but females don't get nearly as heavy. Mine is the 'runt' and weight between 12-17 lbs. Winter more around 15-17 and spring and summer 12-15. But males can get that big and its not ideal. Really 20-25 lbs is the top weight you want because of joint issues and naturally wanting your coonie to live as long as possible. Larger size = heart works harder. So i'd say he needs to lose about 7 lbs. But he's also big of stature so maybe 5. I'd have to feel him to be sure. Each coonie is different. They hav a very large skeleton but some do not need as much weight as they have on them but owners seem to forget they are prone to boredom eating and need a lot of stimulation given they are mousing cats that are very dog like. But yes, they are very shy and true 'gentle giants'. They will onlyr eally act out of redirected aggression and violence typically comes after several warnings. It's simply not in their nature to bite and scratch without warning even when scared. I had to come back and comment about the rage cage: so um, my cat literally behaves the same way with loud sounds. She'll hunt a snake, chip munk, squirrel, birds, moles, and mice down with ease, but the vacuum terrifies her. I've had a few cats and only maine coons seem to think its a dragon.

7:27 ♥This is exactly why I want a Main Coon mix with short fur. I like big cats (and I cannot lie♪), but a Lynx or Puma would not like being a pet, and is likely to eat me if their food bowl gets low.

The four full-grown ferals that I foster would never have any part of that. Good luck even catching them in my house. I found that the doorbell works when it's time to go to bed. When I put them in the garage at night All I got to do is go out and ring the doorbell and they all go running through the doggie door into the garage. It's a beautiful thing.😂
