About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. We dream that someday we can transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.

  1. In my opinion, you should let the geese eat the buckwheat cover crop in the greenhouse and then reseed the greenhouse with winter wheat and peas and you would still have plenty of time for that wheat and pea crop to be big enough to bring the adult geese back into the greenhouse in fall. You might be sacrificing your pumpkins though, so maybe that doesn’t work.

  2. Abby is much more a social dog than Toby. I hate that you criticize her for it. A dog breed is not cookie cutter replica of each other. She is more curious and wants to be with her pack. Cows aren’t them! But sheep might be. Just saying.
You might want to get another dog.
I really don’t think stationing Abby in Siberia is going to work! You may want to herd the cows in at night if there is a real danger to them.

  3. I have learned that from the ages of a few days old to around 6 months, calves go thought this fear period. I just ignore them and continue just hanging with the herd.

  4. I've been watching your YouTube channel for several months now, and just want to let you know how much the videos mean to me. My family owned a generational farm in rural VA until 2001 when my dad sold it. I'm reliving my youth and love of the farming way of life through you. Your positive attitude, and passion for what you are doing, are inspirational to me. Please keep up the videos!

  5. 13:34 You need to deposit a clutch of eggs out in the field ( near where other eggs have been stolen ) with the camera focused directly on that clutch ( i.e. near over head mounted on on a post ), to see what comes to steal those eggs.

  6. I thought you already talked about a solution for the Abby issue… you had those smart-collars with GPS tracker in them, you could set up areas where if she leaves the area the collar vibrate to make her understand she is out of bounce.

  7. My favorite thing about how you treat Abby and Toby is much like a parent and their two very different children. I admire how you are finding their individual strengths while making sure they are safe. With Abby finding a way out reminds me of a parent working really hard to set something up safely and then their toddler coming in and saying NOPE. I'm glad that Abby found that loophole. That way you can keep her safer better.
