In this video i go solo camping in the rain in my tiny tent AKA the Rab Ridge Raider Bivi. Spring is approaching so it was nice to get the bivy out for a last bit of winter camping. The location was pretty close to farm houses, quite straightforward hiking in, and using the bivvy was perfect for low profile stealth camping. I hope you enjoy the footage. I always look forward to your meals! You should make a video of your favorite camping meals π₯
Hi Paul. I prefer a side entrance/exit hooped bivvy, like the Alpkit Elan. I just think itβs easier, getting in and out, plus if there is more than one of you camping, itβs a bit more sociable to be sat up, chatting. And also,
It avoids that βbeing bornβ feeling, in the morning, when I come to get out.π€£
All the bestππΎπ¬π§
Spent one rainy night in a bivy, and I will never do it again. Between the condensation, and claustrophobia, it was my worst night camping EVER! I respect those who can, but I'll take my Lunar Solo.
"just shit myself…" Brilliant!
A bivi is on my list of things I'd like to get/try, but as yet never seen one, so I'm always amazed that you can have contact with the external layer but not get rain soak through.
Remarkable, Paul. You certainly put yourself through the mill on our behalf. Biviβs are not for me – if Iβm looking for lighter weight then itβll be a tarp configured as a tent with a Tyvek ground sheet. Big enough for me and the hound.
I haven't figured it out yet, but im trying to find a system of a bivvi (not hopped) with a small tarp setup just over the top half, tall enough to sit in. Some people use a full on "tarp tent" but normally requires too many poles, guys etc and are still pretty low to the ground. Somewhere to sit to cook, and to cover your face area from the rain…without having to zip inside with the condensation.
Great for hunting stag. Lie there all day and evening and then 1 shot(as De Niro says in Deerhunter).
My take from thus is that it can be done….but you really don't want to.
You ever tried Sealskin socks Paul, handy for stepping out into the wet?
why didnβt you take a tarp?
65 Million years since Dinosaurs. π€
i'll have mine medium rare…
the worm bit got me hahaπ€£
Tent way to go mate. Sorry tent is better.
Not my cup of tea prefer a tent itβs like a coffin β°οΈ.
Hey I want to go wild camping but Iβm nervous about it basically being illegal everywhere but Scotland without land owners permission from what I have read. Is it true it says βlegalβ but everything is privately owned it seems. Also is it safe finding parking and leaving the vehicle overnight, always makes me nervous
I think I'd prefer an Akto or similar! Shouldn't there be a short pole or hoop at the base of the bivvy to keep the bivvy off the sleeping bag?
I'm nearly 2mins in and I'm dizzy from all the camera angles and crop in and out. I love your content but this one was way too over edited… What did the rest of you think
a bunch of us were at Freezer Scout Camp at Hesley this weekend, it was bitterly cold, you're a brave man being out in that without a gas heater or two!
trouble with a bivvy is that you have no where to hide unless you want to go to sleep haha
It's funny when another Englishman can't understand another Englishman's accent and has to rely on the subtitles; that made me laugh in a good way π€£. Nice to see your upload and try something new.
Great video, Paul. I watch Andy with the sub titles on also. Thought it was just me being a yank not being able to understand him. . π
Great video Paul.
Bivvy camping has never appealed to me, love the space of a tent on long nights but can see the appeal with weight and pack size.
Quick question, the neutrino 600 goes down to about -12 so with the outside temp being 3 degrees we're you too warm in the bag with the layers on? Keep up the good content mate.
thats not a tent…. ItΒ΄s a bivy…
Thank you – so good to see the reality of cold rainy Bivvi camp is doable if anything but ideal!
Good Video …Thanks.
Great video!! Thank you for sharing!! x
Youβre dealing brilliantly with non-sensical shitty comments. Just like them and move on. Another great video mate π
Always love watching your videos Paul, it's down to you that I love the Peak District so much! Where abouts are you from?
That would do my head in ..like sleeping in a coffin ..
Looks horrible, thanks for letting me know bivy camping is not for me. Need some space to sit and a vestibule rather than the coffin vibe
I've used a Sierra Designs 3000 bivy in combination with either a tarp or my Gatewood Cape when the rain set in. Works quite well.
Howay man pet lass kid. Ya divvent need sub teetles ye knaaar im from the toon like ant pet Dec lass.
