‘Time to go’: Annastacia Palaszczuk had a ‘very bad run’ as premier

Former Courier Mail and Sunday Mail editor Des Houghton says Annastacia Palaszczuk has a “mixed legacy” after her shock resignation as premier of Queensland.

Ms Palaszczuk announced her retirement at a press conference on Sunday and will officially step down as premier next week.

Ms Palaszczuk was elected in 2015, following the loss of the one-term Campbell Newman Liberal National government.

“She’s had a very bad run – not everything has gone Annastacia’s way,” Mr Houghton told Sky News Australia.

“Slowly, her popularity waned, and people turned against her.

“In the last four or five polls, she has been in a downhill slide and clearly, it was time to go.”

  1. She will be remembered for he cold, calculated and disgusting handling of covid. Refusing medical help to those that needed it the most. Her Queenland hospitals are for Queenslanders statement will be on her tombstone. That's her legacy.

  2. 😂😂😂😂😂😂👏👏👏👏👏 There’s someone who breached the Nuremberg Code, human rights by introducing mandates that had no basis in science. Masks have been proven beyond doubt didn’t work for an airborne virus as proved by the Cochrane Institutes peer reviewed study. In the UK this has been admitted to by one of the government scientific advisors in their inquiry. Mandates didn’t work as the result was no different to Sweden that didn’t lock down.
The government is rehiring teachers, nurses and police that didn’t have the jab that had severe side effects. Good riddance I say. Just my opinion

  3. This is how Sky does their disinformation and undermines democracy. We have Sharri, a champion News Corp commentator interviewing Des, the editor of a News Corp newspaper. Together their number one purpose on the job (working for Rupert) is to bring down any government that may favour citizens over corporations and to promote the LNP. Then there’s the interview in which Des makes the call that Australia’s longest serving female premier – 9 years next February; 3 times winning the vote of the Qld people in a conservative state, improving her majority at the last 2 elections – has had a bad run. What are you saying Des: the people voted for her instead of my team so that means she’s had a bad run?

  4. Yes, Des, the premier who led Labor back into office from just 7 seats. Handled COVID very well which got Labor a second term in 2020. Drastically brought down the rates of land clearing that were going on under Newman. In fact, pretty much the entire first term was cleaning up the mess left by the LNP.

A 'very bad run' indeed, Des, having a party who actually works for Queenslanders, and not for the interests of your sponsors. Shock horror.
