I think the reason they changed the ending of movie from manga was cause they wanted to make a sequel but sadly the film was not as successful as expected for which i blame the marketing.
The one thing that bothers me about the movie, is the fact that she does not just kill him, after finding out how to get the device from the general or getting the info from it. All the times befor that, when they got stuck, she just pluggs him, but the one time they figure it out, it ends with him loosing the looping ability.
But i guess you need some kind of tension for the finale 😀

Great movie. This and alita proved that good live action adaptations of manga and anime can be done if the people making it have conviction.
