GAME: Odin Sphere Leifthrasir
AUTHOR: Vanillaware

Odin Sphere’s gameplay focuses on a beat em up-style fighting system while incorporating role-playing elements — Leifthrasir expands upon and refines these elements. The story, shared between both versions, follows five characters on the fantasy continent of Erion during a war between the nations of Ragnanival and Ringford over a weapon called the Crystallization Cauldron, and their roles in the Armageddon, a catastrophe which will destroy Erion.

  1. Am I the only one that hates it when Gwendolyn eats? Like, I have no issue with her eating, but it's the NOISE. That sound of silverware on ceramic clinking? My god, it drives me up the fucking wall every time I hear it🤣🤣

  2. I should have brought this up in the previous part where it was more appropriate, but there’s a funny little parallel between Gwendolyn and Onyx’s dynamic.
Their Japanese voice actors (Ayako Kawasumi for Gwendolyn and Tomokazu Seki for Onyx) have famously played two characters in the Fate series; Saber and Gilgamesh respectively.
Not only do the characters have similar personalities but they also have a similar dynamic as well, which is some kind of funny coincidence all things considered.

  3. Gwendolyn's story serves as a very acceptable introduction to the world around you.
It's self contained sure, but it introduces many of the overarching plots without focusing too much on either, leaving it to future protagonists to delve into.
It's the game's way of getting your feet onto the ground and show you what the world is and what is in store.

  4. and in today's episode of Odin's Sphere, we look at food, drool at food, save a marriage, stare at food, Nico explodes over food, and then Nico and Nico's Boner have an argument over the incarnation of death itself….just normal everyday things happening here on the SSLP

  5. Nico, I need you to promise me something. You'll eventually get everyone's 50 PP ultimate attack. Please finish off the last boss of their epilogue with those moves for all of them. You gotta end it in an awesome way.

  6. Gwendolyn: Ugh, my husbands "dead," Brom is in a coma, and I still don't know what to do about that "missing" Bunny merchant. I'm so overcome with woes, Myris….

Myris: But uhm…. My Lady… Why are we eating at another restaurant instead of solving the issue at hand…?

Gwendolyn: THIS IS HOW I EXPRESS MY GRIEF MYRIS!! DON'T JUDGE ME!!! (Shoves another spoonful of Chocolate Fondante)

    [Later that day]

Odin: You're looking slightly thinner than last we met.

    Gwendolyn:…. Are you being sarcastic???

Odin: No No, of course not…..

    Gwendolyn:….

    Odin:…..

    Gwendolyn:….

Odin:…..So you uh, want me to help you get your husband back???

    Gwendolyn: Yes.

  7. The Vanir draw their name from a group of Norse gods. Gods like Odin and Thor are Aesir, and gods of fertility and foresight like Freyr and Freyja are Vanir. In the mythos, the Aesir and the Vanir had a war, and eventually reached peace through a hostage exchange.

I'm not entirely sure how the Halja were named. The only source I can find for the word basically means "robe". And, I mean, they're wearing robes, but it feels a bit of a reach. Oh well.

Odette is a name meaning "wealthy," which I suppose is fitting with the lore surrounding this queen of death and all her crystals.

  8. I like how the napple pie looks like the parcel versions you get at like McDonald's. (But a little more high end looking).

Man, that's the good stuff. 🤤🥧🍎

  9. Did you notice the bird leave Gwendolyn?

It was faded a bit, but it looks like she was able to make peace with her own shadows and insecurities, and finally live true to herself through her love for Oswald.

  10. So this is just a guess, and I’m about halfway into the video, but I’m GUESSING that the other playable characters will also have Psypher weapons, so: Oswald, Scarlet, and the fairy chick.

    edit: welp, GUESS I’m wrong.

  11. Fun fact; the Gungnir super attack is a direct reference to another game series, Valkyrie Profile. The triple spear and finish is exactly what the iconic recurring super move, Nibelung Valesti, of the Valkyrie protagonists in that game. Since Gwendolyn is a Valkyrie herself, it’s a cute nod.

  12. Odin may not be "Father of the Year" any time soon, but his actions proved that he genuinely still cares for his children.

Even if Oswald didn't jump in to protect Gwendolyn like that, I don't think Odin would have had it in him to actually hurt her. He could barely keep his emotions in check when he had to exile her on top of giving her hand to another.

As manipulative and twisted as he is in using his kids as pawns for his ambitions, Odin does in fact treasure his family more than his desires.

  13. Gwendolyn took on an entire army in their home base single handedly, forced her father to take her to hell, went to hell and back for her man. Killed the Queen of the dead. Took him home. All before her 20 meals of the day. The power of love and hangry

  14. I find it funny just how little of the plot Gwendolyn actually knows about, so she's able to cause all this damage and fight all these people without having a clue what's going on. This is well emphasized by the fact that Nico has NO IDEA who the next protagonist is because he happened to have absolutely nothing to do with Gwen's plot at all.

  15. Gwendolyn's story is about love! Specificly it is about what makes true love. At the beginning of her story Gwendolyn wants nothing more than the love of her father and so she fights in his war's to earn him glory believing that will grant her his affection. She risks her very life and pays no mind to her own happiness just for the smallest crumb of affection. Gwendolyn has dedicated so much of her life to gaining Odin's love that she doesn't know how to love herself. Eventually Gwendolyn goes as far as to sacrifice her vey honor and status just to save Odin from the pain of losing his first daughter. And only then does Odin show his Gwendolyn genuine love but this is wrong. No one should have to go this fair to earn another person's love let alone from their own father. Odin's love for Gwendolyn is not true love but rather a conditional love that is only revealed when others sacrifice themselves for his benefit. And even then the Kind Words Odin gives to Gwendolyn are soiled when he uses her as tool for his own ambition. Then there are the two men who offer Gwendolyne love freely but for different reasons.

First there is Onyx the Inferno King who posses a strong passion for Gwendolyn but that is all he has. Onyx does not truly love Gwnedolyn but rather lusts for her like a thief lusts for gold, going as far as to even blackmail her into being his possession. But then we have Oswald The Shadow Knight the only man in Gwendolyn's life to show her true love. Oswald loves Gwendolyn unconditionally offering her kindness and affection not because he expects her to love him in return but because he wants nothing more but to make her happy. And Gwendolyne who has never been shown true love in her whole life doesn't know how to accept this. She at first denies her feeling for Oswald and tries to once again dedicate her life to her father, giving him the ring that symbolizes Oswald's love. But once Gwendolyn gives up the ring and learns of Odin's actions she realizes the difference between conditional love and true love. And by realizing this truth she can finally accept Oswald's love rejecting her old life and fighting for Oswald's love in both the land of fire and the Kingdom of the Fairies. However tragedy strike Gwendolyn's story as Oswald dies from a broken heart, born not just from his belief that his love is unrequited but because of his own guilt for in his mind keeping Gwendolyn "imprisoned". I find this scene very interesting because it shows that like Oswald like Gwendolyn is not used to being shown true love. Gwendolyn however refuses to accept this lose and travels to the underworld itself to regain her husband. in this land of Despair Gwendolyn comes face to face with her final boss, Odette Queen of the Dead. She out of everyone else in Odin Sphere is the one most guilty of objectifying others. She literally see Oswald as an object refusing to consider him as person. Treating him the same as he treats her precious jewel. She is incapable of showing anyone love and because of that she losses to Gwendolyn who has spent her entire story learning to love. But the defining moment of Gwendolyn's arc isn't the defeating Odette and rescuing of Oswald but rather her final words to her Father. In the end Gwendolyn goes back oh her promise refusing to give Odin the ring that represents her and Oswald's love. Gwendolyn Chooses her own happiness over her father Finally loving herself. And in doing so Odin at last shows Gwendolyn True love by not only respecting her decision but allowing her to life with Oswald in peace. And now Gwendolyn can spend her days not only being embraced by Oswald's true love but by giving him her own love in return.
