  1. WTF? After Aeris died the first time, I was pissed about all of my hours of investment going down the shit hole. Every playthrough after that…I treated Aeris (or WTF Aerith?), like an idiot blow-up doll side kick. That's all that shit is worth.

  2. Thank-you so much for going that deep on ffvii characters and to coolect all the info, and thank you to put the stress on Tifa, I think it was necessary but we have to talk. It's necessary to talk about Tifa, buy it's necessary because she is not that cool. It's an amazing charismatic character and she is amazing smart, strong and skillful, but she is the second one. If ffvii was super mario she would be Luigi. She is the second to Cloud, Cloud is the real hero, Cloud never smiles, Cloud is allowed to have his own mentals breakdowns because he couldn't admit he was not a first class soldier. Tifa is not allowed to have any drama, she should be strong, to support Clouds, like a mother, a girlfriend or a sister, depending on what Cloud needs, but she herself has no right to have her own drama, her own weakness, she is what Cloud needs, her beauty compleatly dedicated to Cloud make Cloud even more hero, she is a waifu, and for this reason she is the less developed character of ffvii. For sure this is no good because she is totally necessary and amazing in every thing she does so is sad that her character is no deep like other ones. Tifa is second also to Aerith, also in Cloud's heart. Tifa always thought Cloud will finally merry her, when Cloud was falling down on then roof of the church, just before meeting Aeris for the first time, Tifa told Cloud, "You cannot die I still have to tell you so many things!" What Tifa had to say to Cloud? Obvious answer, she waited so much for Cloud! And actually she knew that Cloud was not a first class soldier like Zack or Sephirtoh, but she loved him anyway, she would accept him in any case. But later Cloud met Airis, and Cloud is the strong mercenary so masculine, and with no feelings, that was so kind that he accepted to help saving the world just because once he promised Tifa to protect her, and Aeris will finally be the last of the ancients! It's responsability of the hero to marry the most important female character! Poor Tifa said once Cait Sith! In my opinion if you play neutrally as much as possible the game, you have the date in Gold Saucer with Aeris, not with Tifa. Cloud and Aeris will have no time to stay together again, because Cait Sith will steal the stone to open the temple of the ancients, so they will have to go there inmideatly, there Sephirtoh kills the leader of the Turcs, and Aeris cried! What a contradiction!! Aeris is allowed to have contradictions, but Tifa as the strong and unbreakable second one will accept to be the second in Cloud's heart and also become friend of Aeris and do what should be done, protect her! You know in the beginning I did not like Cloud, he was too strong, I started to appreciate the character untill finally I loved it, when he had his first mental breakdown and started to beat Aeris after the ancients temple. There I saw his weakness and I saw him as a more real character that could really tell me something about the human been. And then Aeris appears in Clouds dreams, she is in the woods going to the temple of the ancients. Aeris has a special connection with Cloud she did not appear in Barrett's dreams or in any other one's but in Cloud's! Also Red XIII has Genova DNA, he also could be the one, but no, it's clear that they have feelings each other. And for this reason It's even more tragic that that Cloud bet her, almost killed her, and finally Sephirtoh killed her in front of him, and even more personal the revenge of Cloud against Sephirtoh, he destroyed his town and killed his love, the love that was choosen by destiny, the love of the hero with the character with the greatest destiny of the game. Because Aeris has the greatest destiny of the game: use the white materia and save the world. Ffvii is the story of how Aeris fighted against Sephirtoh to save the world, every thing told under Cloud's point of view. And in the main while Tifa will accept to be loved by Cloud just because being the second option, and will even take care of him like a mother while he was sick, and also help him to accept his weak masculinity which need to tell that he was a first class soldier strong as the great Sephirtoh when he actually was just a regular soldier. A regular soldier that was victim of Doctor Hojo's experiment's and that doctor Hojo decided did not even was interesting. "Please give me a number!!" Said Cloud to doctor Hojo when he had his second breakdown! He would prefer to join Sephirtoh in his plan rather than accept he was not a strong warrior like Zack! Zack had a number and was first class soldier, but Cloud wasn't and he promised Tifa he would! This was the real reason of his breakdown, and this is why he asked a number, and was only thanks to Tifa who again with an amazing patience helped Cloud to accept his real story, told him she will love him even if he was not what he pretended, and finally allowed him to come back to the fight and save the world. Ffvii is a take of the apocalypse, is a version of the end of the world, only in the beginning there's some hope to have a future in peace, later there's alway no choice, there's only necessity to fight and still more fight, no space for fear, no space for hope, no space for choice, it's a theological tale. Cait Sith critics to Barrett are very deep, they also killed people. The self-critic of Cloud are also very deeo, also he was fighting for a personal revenge. Cloud was fighting because he needed a mother, at least he accepted his weakness, Sephirtoh didn't, but also he was searching his mother. But his will represent the human will to dominate nature, who is everyone's mother, instead of loving her. And he is not so different from Cloud, both fight if them fight for their personal revenge. And finally Tifa is second also to Barret, Barrett is the leader if Avalanche, she is just the helper. In the beginning of the game I liked more Barrett than Cloud, because Barrett loses her patience gets angry, says bad words, Cloud was just serious all the time. Barrett is another deep character which also represents the contradictions of his own fight. Tifa is his helper, with no drama and no contradictions. If you pay attention to the original draws if the characters in the menu, the serious ones are the main ones, the smiling ones are secondary. So finally I just wanted to say that Tifa deserves more than what was given her at least in the original game, and for this reason thank you for the video!

  3. When I first played FF7 Tifa was my choice, in as much as the game gives you one. But people think of her now and picture the smooth CGI model, not the blocky shoebox hands version you spend 90% of the dialogue scenes with. So she just happened to be the more attractive as well, when you're in the game with her it's not as big a factor as her personality and feelings, and her being cloud's childhood friend and wanting so much just to help him find himself resonated with me at that age. She is a deeper character than many give her credit for, if they haven't played the game.

  4. I still love Tifa as a character, it's my favorite final fantasy feminine character, next you can talk about Rinoa or Lightning? "Rinoa" from FF8 was kind of powerless in battle, but "Lightning" from FF13/13-2 was really a bad ass character, who would win in a battle Tifa vs Lightning? poor Snow, got yelled at and punched by ravaged Lightning a couple of times๐Ÿ˜†

  5. 17:55 the scene was sad and all, but the part that made me tear up was how Yuffie reacted to Aerith's death. Even with those simple 3D character models, they managed to show emotion without using words, and seeing Yuffie trying to hold her crying until she breaks down really got me.

  6. Tifa. My choice in-game romantic interest since my early teens. Tifa shows a deeper interest in Cloud and proves time and again that she cares, so it seemed like the natural choice.

Aerith didn't have the same appeal. She's not even there for the whole game. Ironic, I feel he actually preferred Aerith in canon…up until that bastard, Sephiroth, plunged that katana square into her midsection anyway.

I'll splurge on a PS5 next year, so I can experience the remake. I'm all XBox for now.

  7. great video on tifa. i can't help but think some will click off though simply because its a well known well liked character people already know a lot about. most everything about tifa is known to her fans in which there are *many*. id like to see lesser known very interesting characters that could use some spotlight but that might be tough to find and maybe i have an unpopular opinion.. who knows.

edit – i also really like shorts with obscure info on these more well known characters that you have been doing

  8. Jesus Christ! You have a talent for bringing dignity to the soap opera style stories and sad clown theater of these classic video games! Iโ€™m absolutely looking forward to your Lara Croft Retrospective! You make these decades old, poorly stitched together tales, make sense (in the case of Street Fighter in particular). You connect the dots. You make them work, and thatโ€™s a priceless skill! Great Stuff!

Ladies of gaming is a good and essential series, but there are a lot of games that need just as much attention to detail. Metal Gear cries out in pain! A Phantom Pain.
