For those who don’t know, “Nippon” just means “made in Japan”. (Literally translates to “the sun’s origin” or the “the Land of the Rising Sun”.) Sooooo anyway…if your piece is marked “Nippon,” then it was made and imported between 1891 and 1921. If it is marked “Japan”, then your piece was made and imported after 1921. After that year, everything imported into the U.S. had to have the country of origin…in English. Hope that was helpful!
**BUT, there are some instances of makers later in the century faking the Nippon stamp. Be sure to research that to see if you’re getting duped.
